This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

My own name was always the most unusual and very rare now, too. I always remember when, aged 15, a girl in my form told me that she really liked my name and would name her daughter it! After years of snide comments from many people, I was amazed and touched! (Incidentally, I met her years later and she hadn’t 😹.)

I was totally in love with a child named Vanessa when I was in Reception, and she was a very grown up Year One! I have gone off it somewhat now.

I still like the name Belinda, due to a brief friendship with a ‘cool’ six year old in my class!

Never known one irl, but as a child I also loved the name Sabrina.

As a 16 year old on a trip to Paris, where we shared accommodation and activities with kids from all over Europe, I loved a Danish girl we met called Marika - I still like that name now!

Deanna, she was cool and outdoorsy.

Xanthe. I cant remember her, although I think she was nice. She joined the school late, but I loved her name!

Allshallbewell2021 · 14/02/2024 14:42

I love the name Karina, I worked with a Karina.

I always thought Charlotte was very pretty too. I was at school with so many Charlottes.

OopsieeDaisy · 14/02/2024 15:00

Annabel - I still love the name now and would definitely use it for my own DD!

Late 60s, Anastasia, Stefania and Erica

The ones I thought sounded very glamorous and exotic at the time were Dominique, Angelique and Sukie.

Anneka

I'm my DD's primary class there were the most beautiful twins called Anneka and Krystal. I know my DD loved their names. They had a pony too. She seemed envious about them and their lifestyle.

I can't stand the name now, but back then it was Lydia.

I was at school early 90s to mid 00's so everyone was called Claire, Lauren, Emma etc. Lydia seemed really exotic.

Also there was a girl named Saya a few years above which I thought was really beautiful at the time, but I think it was mainly because she was also very pretty!

I went through infant, junior and comp in the early 60's with a girl called Joy. I thought it was a lovely name, she was a very pretty blue eyed blonde with a lovely gentle nature. I have never come across another Joy irl.

Bronwyn
She was such a pretty girl but her mother had a mouth like a sewer and her brothers were little thugs

Riverlee · 14/02/2024 15:24

I knew a Karina and she was beautiful in looks and personality.

Lucy. Not unusual but pretty. I went to school with a Jean. Didn't seem odd at the time but it was as i started school in 1977 not 1947! Lots of Cathy, Claine Rachel's, Andrea and Joanne. Know 2 Karen's and thought it was unusual at the time!

I am a Lucy and my beloved grandmother was Jean. She died 9 months ago and I want to give my own daughter Jean as a middle name after her, so she lives on.

I went to secondary school in the west of Ireland thirty years ago with a girl called Cindy, she looked like a model.

Angelica - beautiful girl a few years old than me, amazing hair and nice too!

Lampzade · 14/02/2024 15:30

When I was at secondary school we had a girl ( of Nigerian origin) Her name was Isiomah ( phonetically isi-oh - mah). I adored the name but obviously couldn’t use it for any of my dcs as it is a name used by a particular tribe in Nigeria.

XelaM · 14/02/2024 15:30

Marie

She was perfect and I wanted to be her.

aifosaissela777 · 14/02/2024 15:32

Anaïs - I just thought it was pretty and different

iwannacoolrider · 14/02/2024 15:33

Joanna.

chaos76 · 14/02/2024 15:36

Zoe, Galinna, Cynthia, Gabrielle, Yolanda, they were really nice people so maybe skewed how I saw their names

SilverSimca · 14/02/2024 15:43

At primary school, Cassandra. She was Greek, and I still think of her as her full name, middle name and all. She would probably be astounded, if she remembers me at all,
At secondary school, probably Sophie. There were two of them. Or Lara.
