Need an R name for baby boy.
What's your opinion on Roman? Ronan? Reuben?

Big yea on Roman! As well as Ronan, Roan/Rowan

other R names -

Ren
Rafa (Raphael/Rafferty)
Robben
Rhett

I'm not a fan of Roman, it is getting very popular.
I like the name Remus and has a slight link to Roman i.e the myth of Romulus and Remus (twin brothers, Romulus gave his name to Rome).

@Kwam31 , not one Rhodri I know says Rodri, and not one Rhys says Rees. The letter Rh doesn't sound like R.

Disingenuous. I live in Wales and of course they should be said with the correct Rh sound, but MANY Welsh natives say Rodri and Reese unfortunately.

KevinMcAllistereatsyellowsnow · 30/01/2024 19:22

Love Rex and Rowan.

Is Rex a bit "dog's name"?

What about Romy or Remy?🤍

Samzzz · 30/01/2024 19:32

Also wanted to add that I love Robin for a boy. It’s classic, not popular and such a beautiful soft name imo.

sciencemama · 30/01/2024 19:34

Personally Roman but other similar sounding I like are ramone and Rowen or even Rohan

Moier · 30/01/2024 19:40

Rowan?

I know! They seem like men's names not boys' names. It'll be the non-speakers using those pronunciations.
It's not that I mind them using them, it's just that the anglicised versions become dominant and they're not very nice.

Funny how the names are never ones like Rheinallt or Rhydderch Smile

KirstenBlest · 30/01/2024 19:44

@KevinMcAllistereatsyellowsnow , Rex is s bit of a dog's name but dogs get called things like Alfie, Rufus or Milo, or Ruby, Bella or Lola nowadays.

theduchessofspork · 30/01/2024 19:49

I like Ronan and it’s much less overused than the other two.

theduchessofspork · 30/01/2024 19:50

or Rufus?
Rafe
Raphael
Richard

Edited

I always feel bad saying this (because why shouldn’t it be unisex) but I much prefer Robin for a girl

OMGitsnotgood · 30/01/2024 19:54

I know a lovely guy called Roman, almost everyone calls him Ro so be sure you like that if you go with that name.

Ronan or Rowan. I'm afraid Roman is terrible. I think I have a particular aversion to it as every boy called Roman that I've met has been a terror.

BeckyWithTheGoodBear · 30/01/2024 20:03

Ruadhan (roo-awn) Might have to explain pronunciation a lot though!

@BeckyWithTheGoodBear I like it but would get misspelled and mispronounced a lot.

KirstenBlest · 31/01/2024 08:13

Roger

wingsofabird · 31/01/2024 09:20

I'd avoid a name beginning "Ro.." @KevinMcAllistereatsyellowsnow they're really overused. So many Rory Roman Ronnie Rowan's etc all fastest rising trendy names that all blend together when you have a few in a class. I prefer Rex.
