Roman - yea or nay?

Need an R name for baby boy.
What's your opinion on Roman? Ronan? Reuben?

Roman is far too trendy for me. I much prefer Reuben and Ronan from your list.

@Chichimcgee , sort of like saying R and H at the same time. It's a bit like the difference between T and Th in that they don't sound the same. The y isn't ee either. It's an old Welsh name that is very popular in Wales.
Imagine you were at school with lots of Stephens and you moved to France and found that they had started to use Stephen as a trendy boy's name but said it as Steff-enn, you'd probably think

I live in Wales (not Welsh) and have taught 3 Rhodri's. They all pronounced it "Rodri".

It may be a North/South thing.

Roman has appeared out of nowhere and got popular really fast. Wasn’t it the fastest rising boys name in 2021? I think it’ll probably date quickly and badly.

@Lionbros , yes. I'd put Arlo in the same category. If you don't know many little boys, the names seem new and fresh, but they'll probably be one of many at school. Roman will be in a class with Reuben, Rowan, Rory, Reggie, Ronnie ...

@DoggusDomesticus , partly. It would depend where in Wales and how good their Welsh is. The Rh is the same everywhere but in non-speaking areas, some will say it as R.

Roman is like Greek or used to describe someone or something from Rome.

Why do you need an R name?

Roman is literally everywhere in German speaking countries (pronounced slightly differently due to German). At least 1-2 in every classroom. It's definitely not a posh name though...

I have a Reuben and so am a bit bias, I love Roman too. But really don't like Ronan.

I like all those names, however, if there is already someone with the same first initial in the same household it just causes confusion
