I will never forget Wayne, the name is not unusual but when the family surname is King it is not a good choice.

MrsTulip · 19/01/2024 20:44

A family I used to work with had 3 boys called Kyeden -Kale, Kade and Kolby.

I have also had some very pretty Indian (not unusual in Indian culture) girls games in my Rainbow unit but my absolute favourite was Ahona meaning first ray of sun.

And my grandma's sister was called Annisabella- known as Ansi. I never knew until she died what her actual name was. I assumed it was Ann. It was actually one name.

Annisabella is a fantastic name!

Some of you must live in a nice white little MC bubble if you think some of these names are 'random'

Twins Summer and May sounds ok until you realise their surname

Hope I'll read on and find out what it is!

mammaCh · 19/01/2024 21:31

Bryn is Welsh.

Oh I know a Bryn I think it's a lovely name.

bananamonkey · 19/01/2024 21:40

Elvis is a good strong name.

A FOF is Tamla (after the record label), never come across that before.

I found my screenshot

There is nothing in that screen shot to suggest the punctuation is pronounced though. Even if it was a hyphen is sometimes called a dash but that contains an apostrophe which isn't called a dash. It's far more likely that it's pronounced Elle Ay (like TJ is Tee Jay) and the apostrophe is to indicate that it's not pronounced La (as in Doh, Ray, Me)

Snugglemonkey · 19/01/2024 21:42

I have not encountered anything very random. I gave encountered some from this thread, Precious, Blessing, Ignatious, Cosmo, but they are not random!

There were 2 wee girls, sisters, in my son's swimming class called Nevaeh and Nirvana though.

Spidey66 · 19/01/2024 21:49

I was in a newsagent and heard a man calling his two young sons (about 6). They were called Ronnie and Reggie. Yeah name your sons after brothers who were in charge of the criminal underworld.

UrsulaBelle · 19/01/2024 21:49

From my childhood, Gaive, Heathcliff and Nada, 2 brothers and a sister. All in their 50s now. Crispin, Lucian and Julian, brothers. None that unusual but stood out among the Marks, Andrews and Stevens.
Troy, Julie-nne, Thadra, (not Phaedra) Jonquil and Veryan (my best friend in infants.) Richard Stiff, (what were his parents thinking?) always Rich, never Dick…

More recently
Thor, Field, Storm, Robeye ( pronounced like a Brummy Robbie) Pharrel, Latrell, Zephyr, (love it!) Isis, (lovely name, just bad timing) Honey, Jimihendrix, (all one word)

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 19/01/2024 21:50

The only name I have ever encountered which I think might warrant the title random is "baby"

Not irl but in the UK the registered baby names are released up to the point of 3 kids having that name. And for all the years I looked at somewhere right at the end was "baby"
Apparently the paperwork from the hospital confuses a very small number of families each year who register the birth believing that the doctors at the hospital have already chosen the name for their baby.

Spidey66 · 19/01/2024 21:51

Names like Precious, Blessing, Admire, Freedom etc are very common in parts of Africa.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/01/2024 21:52

Very outing but two children, male and female, whose first names were herbs. Their initials including middle names spelled out the same herbs.

Mittemucci · 19/01/2024 21:55

sodabreadjam · 19/01/2024 16:36

A student where I worked called Shinel. I think the parents were aiming for Chanel as in the perfume and fashion brand.

In DH’s family tree there was a male christened Lucky. All of his many siblings had first names beginning with L but his was the only unusual name.

I remember doing youth work in the 00’s in the uk and meeting many a Chanel, Shanel, Chynyl, Chanelle, etc etc
