I knew a family of 3 - 2 boys and a girl - whose parents named them Kenneth, Penelope and Dennis.
The trouble was, it was done to produce the rhyming trio of "Kenny, Penny and Denny" which the 3 of them hated when they got into their teens.

I don't get it? Because it's not heaven spelt backwards

We've been through this - the correct spelling is Nevaeh.

QuizzlyBears · 19/01/2024 16:12

I know someone who had a baby fairly recently and called her Banks. I think it’s lovely, had never heard it before.

That's probably what happened.

I'm surprised people are getting so worked up about this and calling me a liar. I don't really mind, just stating my experience, people can believe or not.

I had no idea it would blow up this much or be so controversial (I just logged on to see 15 notifications from this thread!)- I didn't even know about the whole urban myth thing.

Just ignore. Some people come on here fired up to punch.

PosyPrettyToes · 19/01/2024 16:16

@vidflex I absolutely love that!

LuluBlakey1 · 19/01/2024 16:17

My great-grandma's sister's son married a girl called Fanny Hare. I bet she was glad to get rid of her maiden name.

Goldwork · 19/01/2024 16:19

There was a lawyer at my firm (US branch so I never met her) called Cupcake Brown. That's my favourite name ever I think. Also I think of her when people on the baby name boards say that Missy or Ella-Mae or whoever won't be able to be judges. Cupcake was not a judge but she was a very well paid lawyer at a big firm.

Superb 😂

That makes me think “James James Morrison Morrison commonly known as Jim ..”

But his full name was James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree. 😁

That used to be quite a common name in the 18thC. It's quite nice.

It is nice.

There was a character in a B/W film called Loveday Mason. David Kossof was in it as well, I think, and Dora Bryan.

(God, I'm old . . . )

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 19/01/2024 16:23

I know of a Cosworth with his sister Porsche.

Apparently Mum remarried and the other sister was named Lauren.

In the late 70s I went to school with an American boy called Adolf, pronounced Ay (as in "hay" or "say) dolf.

That just how they say it. Def Neo Nazi parents there.

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 19/01/2024 16:24

Through work: Alatea - but it probably should have been Alatéa because it is pronounced “Allah-tay-uh”. Nice kid, but her mother was absolutely crackers, a compulsive liar and convinced the poor girl had all sorts of medical issues that she didn’t have. It was a train wreck. I think she had another kid with a normal name.

Ariola

😳

At least it's not spelled with an "e" . . . small mercies . . .

Neveah (Heaven backwards). This is in the UK - think it's quite a US trend though.

Wouldn't that be Nevaeh ?

Probably quite a nightmare husband now, thinking of how controlling he was towards his mother.

PosyPrettyToes · 19/01/2024 16:28

I used to work with a woman called Heavenly Blessings. And she really was - she was just the nicest, jolliest, kindest woman. Her sister was called something like Precious Angel, and was apparently not remotely like her name. Grin

I work in maternity and have had some interesting ones. Managed to talk a woman out of naming her twins Jackson and Jaxon, thankfully! I delivered a baby Malibu, and also a Pebbles. Oh, and Dash. We did have a couple who were planning to name their baby Gryffindor but I think they went for just Griffin in the end.

heymammy · 19/01/2024 16:28

I overheard a mum in Morrisons yelling for her son Elvis. I actually think it's a great name but not hollered in a Glaswegian accent!

Years later there was a different wee boy at the kids' school called Elvis so maybe it's getting popular?

God - You'd rush into matrimony with just about anyone to get rid of that, wouldn't you?

I know someone who had a baby fairly recently and called her Banks. I think it’s lovely, had never heard it before.

Hilary Duff aka Disney's Lizzy Maguire named her daughter Banks a few years ago.

Worried234 · 19/01/2024 16:30

Confidence.

Excellent.

Blessing.

Agree - and we don't know when Snopes etc were last updated.

Someone could well have heard that urban myth and though "Hey! That's very clever and witty." and used it.

Ignore them @banjocat

I've recently met an African guy who is called Great, which I love. I'm presuming it's in a 'God is great' meaning.

Rocky (not a nickname)

I know a fabulous Rocky, tho spelt slightly differently. Don't find that particularly random tbh?
