I wouldn't think anything of a boy called Sky. Sky Masterson from Guys and Dolls is a pretty famous character,

Notallscumbags · 19/01/2024 13:52

October for a girl

SameOldSong · 19/01/2024 13:53

Denim, Endurance and Beckham.

Last year on holiday I met a Blousey. Pronounced 'blouse' (like the clothing garment) 'y'.

everygreensock · 19/01/2024 13:54

Africa. She's white, has no connection to Africa and a complete bell end.

It's after Blousey Brown in Bugsy Malone.

I really like the sound of the name Nevaeh but what it is puts me off.

children I’ve actually met - Trigger, Diamonte, Cash, Mephisto.

at a toddler group just before lockdown there was a Muriel, an Elspeth and a Warren.

I once had to interview a lady called Sukdeep......

Which is a common Asian name…

kernowpicklepie · 19/01/2024 13:58

A girl called Sparrow and a girl called Raven.
Both lovely names I think.

When pregnant with DS our top name was Opie (Cornish name) DH liked Maverick and we liked Diesel at one point. We were really struggling with names for DS 🤣

GintyMcGinty · 19/01/2024 13:58

Sparkle

BreatheAndFocus · 19/01/2024 13:59

Ave-Maria, Maverick, Xenon, Dove, and more than one Nevaeh.

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 19/01/2024 13:59

Raven would work well of a gothic type of girl. Not so much a perky blonde.

3peassuit · 19/01/2024 14:00

Tarzan.

Issueatwork · 19/01/2024 14:01

I know a Chardonnay who is about 21 now. Her mum had her at about 15 and is now mortified by it. Chardonnay has grown up to be a stunning girl with a love of the 80s and her name adds to her charm, she somehow really rocks it.

AllTheChaos · 19/01/2024 14:01

Peka. He was a student from somewhere in Scandinavia so it was v mainstream to him, but not in Lewisham it wasn’t! Pronounced ‘Pecker’. Much quiet sniggering all round!

PickledScrump · 19/01/2024 14:02

@SoupDragon i believe L’a is pronounced as lay-a, not a common name by any means but is used as one. La-a has no documented usage

Oh I forgot the best one - I met a Maximus Rex. The first name chosen because he was a big baby apparently, but its excellent with the surname

I have a girlfriend with a maximus, he came in at a whopping 10lb 2

In the supermarket & heard a mum shouting Appolo to her her runaway daughter. I think the child was preparing for lift off.

Teamustbefromateapot · 19/01/2024 14:05

Have come across an Obadiah called "Obi"! Weirdest I've met though has to be Cinderella.

A friend once taught English to Vietnamese refugees in Australia. Three of her students were called Fuk, Tits and Fart. A local radio station did a feature on her and she took great delight in introducing her star pupils live on air!

I once had someone to fix my dishwasher whose name was Anal (pron. An-al), and thought 'Poor guy!'. Imagine going through life in an English-speaking country with the name Anal Shock

Neveah (Heaven backwards). This is in the UK - think it's quite a US trend though.

This is what I don't understand about this name.

Neveah really isn't heaven spelled backwards! It's haeven spelled backwards. Bloody doubly stupid.

goodgriefsean · 19/01/2024 14:07

These threads are always just the same boring mix of snobbery, cultural ignorance and urban myths. There's life outside of suburban England.

cheezncrackers · 19/01/2024 14:07

I lived in the US for several years and came across all kinds of names that were extraordinary to my British ears, but most of them were just names from other parts of the world that I hadn't heard before. I'll never get over TrayC though (pron. Tracey). She was a client of the business I worked for.

I think most of them are called Nevaeh to be fair.

Oh yea Pekka is a very common Finnish name. :)

I can't think of any super wild ones but I know a Loxley Fox (+surname) and a couple of Blazes. When DC was little there was a little baby boy in our NCT group and his name was Bryn. It's just a name but for some reason it always felt really random to me.
