We need a girl's name beginning with D ...

because our names begin with A and B - and then entirely unintentionally, we called DS a name beginning with C.

Front runners are Dorothy and Dorothea at the moment.

What do you think?

Dorothea is lovely. Also like Dolores or Dolly!

Wow, thank you all for your suggestions - both serious and otherwise. I particularly enjoyed Diptheria, Dolcelatte and Dave! I can't believe how many D names everyone has come up with!

Dorothea is my current favourite, though DH still not sure. I think I may be unduly influenced by Swallows and Amazons' Dick and Dot.

Does anyone know anyone under the age of 65 called Dorothy / ea?

Re why the D, well it's one way of reducing the choice ...

Deborah
Delight (Angel for short)
Darcy
Dominique
Daphne
Detta
Danielle
Davina
Dove
Diminutia (only if she is small)
Desdemona
Drosophilia (I think that is actually real but you would have to call her Dropsy for short)
Duty

Is it the law that families' names have to go A, B, C and D then?

Go for Zooella and fly in the face of convention!!

Daniella is quite common here.

I second TheHonEnid: Dolores...Dolly for short.

Lovely choices, all. Thanks for posing the fun question!

BitLessTiredNow · 18/03/2008 13:47

please go against Deborah - it is my name and a nightmare - I am always getting it spelt wrong or abbreiviated into things I hate like 'Debbie' (no offence to any Debbies on here, its just not a name I like to be called)

nailpolish · 18/03/2008 15:38

er, my name is Debbie

not Deborah, just Debbie

i kinda like it...
