Welsh boy name suggestions for a brother to Rhys

We are at loggerheads! DH doesn't like my suggestions and I don't like his, so looking for everyone else's 😂.

My top one so far is Iestyn but I'm not 100% and I'm stumped on a middle name to go with. Ideally would like a Welsh first name. I'm not sure if anyone can make any suggestions, as there isn't 1000s to choose from! 🤦‍♀️

Owen

Moonface31 · 18/12/2023 19:54

I think Dylan is lovely, I know it's popular though which might put some people off.
Elis? I know a few but all with the English double L spelling.

Gassylady · 18/12/2023 19:56

Osian is lovely as is Owain

Remy7 · 18/12/2023 19:57

Gareth
Osian
David
Owen
Carwyn
Ioan

Whataretheodds · 18/12/2023 19:59

I really like Iestyn.
What about Owain, Owen, Iolo, Huw, Rhodri, Hefin, Sion, Hywel, Ifor, Ifan?

Do you live in Wales? I think In England Dylan will always (at least initially) be pronounced like Bob Dylan rather than the Welsh pronunciation.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 18/12/2023 20:00

Aled
Iolo
Morgan
Iwan

calimali · 18/12/2023 20:01

Dafydd
Iago
Gruffydd
Ioan
Dewi
Jac
Steffan

Whataretheodds · 18/12/2023 20:01

I like Osian too. And Ioan and Carwyn!
Gruff?
Aneurin/Nye?

Mykittensmittens · 18/12/2023 20:01

My DS was almost Ioan. It’s lovely. Second for me would be Rhodri - Rhys and Rhodri is a nice pairing.

cw84 · 18/12/2023 20:02

Rhodri
Mabon
Aled
Idris
Gruff
Gethin
Llion

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 18/12/2023 20:03

I have a calon mawr for Rhodri, but Iestyn, Owain and Tudur are also great names...

GHSP · 18/12/2023 20:04

I love Aled, Owain and Iestyn

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/12/2023 20:05

Bit of a rogue suggestion as it’s not Welsh, but my son is Ivo which everyone always assumes is Welsh even though it’s not. Phonetically pronounced and easy to understand both within and outwith Wales.

justasoul · 18/12/2023 20:07

I quite like Iestyn. Every time I see the BBC radio Cymru advert on tv I always think what a great name Tudur is, I’ve never met one in real life.

Muddywellies10 · 18/12/2023 20:07

Elis or Ellis
Ioan
Osian
Tomos
Llyr

foreverbasil · 18/12/2023 20:10

I love Ianto. Not sure but think it might be a bit old fashioned now

GeorgeBeckett · 18/12/2023 20:13

Ianto Is my top vote I think, or Iolo

But also love
Aled or Owain if you want to go relatively mainstream

Love Idris and Emrys but not sure about with Rhys

Bit more Welsh
Meurig

Poblano · 18/12/2023 20:30

I know 5 sets of brothers called Rhys and Sion, so that's a very popular pairing.

I like Iestyn, I think it sounds nice with a one syllable middle name. Iestyn Llyr? Iestyn Rhun?

theduchessofspork · 18/12/2023 20:32

Idris

Gawain

mummabubs · 18/12/2023 20:44

I really wanted Gethin but husband wasn't keen. Ditto Iolo. 😅🤦🏻‍♀️

DaNiYmaOHyd · 18/12/2023 20:58

Are you based in Wales, and if so, are you in a Welsh-speaking part of Wales? Do you speak Welsh?
Asking because the trends are different.

Icannoteven · 18/12/2023 21:36

Iwan
Ifor
Caerwyn (can be shortened to cae or wyn)
owain
Elis

DaNiYmaOHyd · 18/12/2023 21:45

Cae? Confused. I like Ifor.

Spyrothedragonn · 18/12/2023 21:55

Emrys!

ChickpeaPie · 18/12/2023 21:58
