Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

Lisandry? Sounds too much like misandry!?! 😟

Brats4kid · 14/12/2023 18:38

Uhh... I have a Tahlia, pronounced Tarlia. But the others? 😱

Justontherightsideofnormal · 14/12/2023 18:40

Helen is nice, so is Emma. Don’t go crazy on weird spelling. It only sets children up for teasing.
how about Ellen
Emilia
Emily
all lovely girls names.

remember your child will already have two mums (which is absolutely normal in my book) however others may have a view in this. So couple that with a weird / odd spelling name it may draw more attention to them they do not need. (Please don’t think I am against same sex couples as I am absolutely not)

twelvexii · 14/12/2023 18:43

I'm afraid all if those names are dreadful. Your child will be the one who all the teachers (and probably other parents) complain about.

Onthepage · 14/12/2023 18:45

All awful, Lisandry sounds like a disease of some sort. Paris and other similar names I find a bit pretentious. Dahlia is a flower generally full of earwigs! Neva sounds like a Nevus! Bradley’s not even got words for that 😂
Best of luck though you will find something you both like eventually it’s not always easy.

MaraisCinnamon · 14/12/2023 18:45

How about Esme? English name from old French 'esmer' meaning loved.Simple and classic.

Fabulousdahlink · 14/12/2023 18:45

Lisandry ( is this a blend of both your names? ) is too like Misandry - the strong dislike of all men.

I love Raven and Rowan as gender neutral names.

NoodleDoodle24 · 14/12/2023 18:45

Helen is hideous - yous re not giving birth to a 40 year old. Please for the love of god don’t go with Helen.

I like Dahlia and I don’t think Bradley spelled normally is bad!

RogersOrganismicProcess · 14/12/2023 18:46

Ah Romy is my favourite, from your list.

Maude is strong for an adult and simultaneously very cute for a little one.

From pp’s suggestions, I have never met a Martha that wasn’t absolutely amazing in every way, and jolly lovely too.

Skyelils · 14/12/2023 18:46

Helens nice and hazel if that’s one to consider

Blades2 · 14/12/2023 18:47

None are to my taste, baby names are very personal and if your wife likes what she likes then good luck changing her mind hah

ScottishWaylander · 14/12/2023 18:47

Lorena is really nice :-)

Chuckling at the idea of giving birth to a 40 year old! Imagine the surprise and disdain of the poor middle aged child having to remove herself from your birth canal, and brush herself off in a room full of onlookers!

MonicaBingaling · 14/12/2023 18:48

These are all horrible sorry. And Helen is an older woman’s name

BooBooDoodle · 14/12/2023 18:52

All of them are pretty dire but it’s personal choice. Helen is the only one I’d choose and I have a cousin called Helen who is a huge pain in the arse so don’t like the name Helen to be fair.

sausagepastapot · 14/12/2023 18:53

All awful!

masterblaster · 14/12/2023 18:53

They are all terrible except Helen.

Bradleigh in particular will be explaining forever that they are not a boy / man.

Lisandry sounds like misandry.

Just call the kid Kate. She can shorten it to Kat if she wants to be edgy.

Trickortreatitspartytime · 14/12/2023 18:53

Romy and Dahlia are pretty. Helen is a bit plain imo.

VanityDiesHard · 14/12/2023 18:55

SuperBlondie28 · 14/12/2023 18:28

All awful! Including Helen. I say that in all honesty as it's my first name and it's soooo boring and old fashioned !! I'm mid 70s born. Plus I always get called 'Ellen'. Folks either drop the H or miss hear when I say Helen. I don't have a strong accent either

Huh? That makes no sense. Ellen is a really old fashioned name, I think. Much more so than Helen, which is timeless (think Helen of Troy)

ftp · 14/12/2023 18:56

Is she going for gender neutral names, perhaps? But there are nicer ones.

Ozmo766 · 14/12/2023 18:57

Sorry but how on earth are people actually liking the name Helen????

Are we in the same year...no, decade?!

Helen. As in, the most basic, receptionist name on the planet. Come on guys, do better.

The other names on your list are awful too with the exception of Romy.

Someone suggested Romily which is lovely.

If place names are your thing, how about India? That one is pretty.

Or Nova, I like that one for you two random Internet strangers.

All the best with the naming. Took us til our daughter was 6 weeks old to finalise her name, which is Indie. I imagine people will tell me that's awful too hahaha

nisagrl · 14/12/2023 18:58

My 2 cents: think less of a name either of you like but more of a name that's easy to spell and won't get picked on for any reason (or as much as possible). Also think of the possibility your baby will go abroad and will need to spell their name in a different language.
There's not much you can do about family name but at least one aspect of their life to be as easy as possible.

You do what you think it's right for you but that how I picked my son's name.

dzara · 14/12/2023 19:02

Neva? Sounds like Never.
Hope your family name is not Again.
Poor kid would be called Neva Again 🙄

momtoboys · 14/12/2023 19:02

Demainsdeslaube · 12/12/2023 21:28

Then I should say, which one is the least awful? Lol

Helen is the only one that isn't dreadful.

dzara · 14/12/2023 19:05

Dalia is not bad, it's a flower name no? Or us it Delia?
Apart from Neva, your list is slightly better, except for Helen which is a nice name.
