Hello everyone!

I am 5 months pregnant, and my wife and I are having a hard time agreeing. After weeks of "arguing", we decided to forget about all the previous names suggested before and make a new list.
I absolutely hate all the names she wrote down :

  • Bradleigh ( her favourite)
  • Dallas
  • Paris
  • Lisandry
  • Helen ( The only one I like)

Whereas my favourite names are:

  • Romy ( She likes it but not love it)
  • Dahlia
  • Neva

She is so sure, those are pretty names. Pleaaase help, she'll be reading all the comments!

No I think the poster is pushing the water melon. Their wife has the awful names . Also I’m assuming it’s a girl so the other poster who said Hector was mistaken too.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 12/12/2023 23:01

Is Lisandry a typo/ mis hearing of Lysander? In which case it's a boy's name. (Apologies if that's already been pointed out. -haven't read the full thread)

Dahlia sounds like a joke - or a character from Mapp & Lucia or possibly Midsummer Murders.

How about Melon-y

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 12/12/2023 23:03

OP and wife.
Please don't do this to her
🙏

• Bradleigh ( her favourite) - chavvy
• Dallas - immediately thought pornstar
• Paris - chavvy
• Lisandry - what even is this?
• Helen ( The only one I like) - bland but okay

Whereas my favourite names are:

• Romy ( She likes it but not love it) - chavvy
• Dahlia - pronounced Day-Lee-ah? This is nice, I think?
• Neva - Noooo she will be called Never all her life

The best of the bad bunch for me is Helen and I think I like Dahlia. As a pp suggested you could mix the 2 together maybe and go for Helena?

bengalcat · 12/12/2023 23:04

helen and romy are ok but what if it’s a boy

fashionqueen1183 · 12/12/2023 23:04

Sorry I think they sound like fake stripper names. Except Helen. Bradley is a boys name and spelling it Bradleigh just makes it seem like a bad spelling not a girls name. People will forever assume they’re a boy.
I think the three you mentioned you agreed on before are all much nicer!

fashionqueen1183 · 12/12/2023 23:05

And yes Lisandry makes me think of misandry. So definitely no :)

Diaria · 12/12/2023 23:05

Don’t know if this would help…

Bradley: broad meadow
Christina: follower of Christ
Emma: universal
Gabriella: devoted to God
Helena: shining light
Lorena: laurel (honour and victory)
Romy: dew of the sea
Sophia: wisdom

Womencanlift · 12/12/2023 23:08

While you are trying to be cool with made up or city names, your daughter will have to live with it. She will have to go through school, get a job, have to explain her ridiculous spelling in every social situation

You are setting her up with a frustrating life with some of your suggestions, especially those coming from your wife

Emma and Cristina are lovely, the rest not so much

Yalta · 12/12/2023 23:08

We had agreed on a particular name prior to dd’s birth.
When Dd arrived we looked at her and the name just wasn’t right for her. We both said a name that wasn’t on any of our lists but which was just her.
We both said the name at the same time.

Whilst you can decide what names you like sometimes you just look at a baby and all your careful planning goes out if the window and you know what their name should be.

It's not a boy, but if she was, she'd be Clement or Levi.

Her names are vile. Definitely her hormones messing with her.

TheFireflies · 12/12/2023 23:10

grinchers · 12/12/2023 22:17

Frankie
Jaicey
Jordan
?

I thought OP’s list was bad, but … Jaicey?!

OP, I think the fact Helen is being considered the best choice from your list by many people really does indicate you might need to go back to the drawing board.

CatOnAMushroom · 12/12/2023 23:11

Juniper
Arietty
Lorelei
Eleanor

ChateauDuMont · 12/12/2023 23:11

Bradleigh ( her favourite) hideous. Bradley is acceptable.
• Dallas - hideous.
• Paris - hideous.
• Lisandry - very hideous.
• Helen ( The only one I like) - pretty name.

Whereas my favourite names are:

• Romy ( She likes it but not love it) - quite nice.
• Dahlia - hideous.
• Neva - I don't like it.

For the fortieth time, OP is pregnant - not the wife.

I can’t get over Bradleigh and Dallas, they are so awful.

jadey1991 · 12/12/2023 23:15

Only name I'm.keen on is dahlia.. not so.sure about all the other names

Ellmau · 12/12/2023 23:16

What about Delilah? Or Clementine?

Reesescheeses · 12/12/2023 23:17

Helen is massively dated.. or have I missed a comeback?!

I think Romy is lovely. Paris is passable but all the others would have me smirking if I heard them in real life

Greenpolkadot · 12/12/2023 23:17

Sorry but her choices sound a bit ' local authority ,'
Helen sounds quite nice.
It's a difficult choice to have to make

Calliopespa · 12/12/2023 23:18

forgotmyusername1 · 12/12/2023 22:57

Romilly?

Means God's beloved one so is an actual name and incorporates some of the sounds you were going for

Is it faintly reminiscent of Erwin Rommel?
