Slightly piggy backing off another thread in this topic but just really curious about this.

Obviously we've all heard of some very unusual suggestions on this site and we can all think of a celeb that's opted for something very unique but in your day to day life what would you say is most unusual you've come across?

For me it'd probably be Maverick for a boy and Lavender-Lily for a girl.

I haven't come across many unusual names and find a lot that seem unusual are less so when you get used to them.
When I was at uni though we had a big cross university meeting and they did a register and there was a 'strawberry field forever'. She looked a little older than the other students and had pink hair so might have changed her name herself. I never saw her after that meeting though.

@Stillthewrongsideof40 what's wrong with Charlie? it's a very common nickname for Charlotte.

I don't think she said there was anything wrong with it? She obviously just doesn't know many.

Chlorophyll

I know a Chlorophyll too. And, no word of a lie, she has a sister called Photosynthesis.

PonkyPonky · 21/11/2023 21:05

Posey-Blossom
Ocean
Odin
I also see soooo many bloody weird spellings of lovely names. It’s so odd to choose a lovely name then spell it so strangely, that child will spend their entire life spelling it out!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 21/11/2023 21:06

Blimey - they named one of them after a serial killer in a horror film! And she's worried about being judged for having an untidy house...!

L-A
Pronounced "Ledasha"

That didn't happen, did it? It's an urban myth.

TinyKittenPaw · 21/11/2023 21:06

Tosh Goldspink - wonderful!

foxy and Wolfie (twins)

Judellie · 21/11/2023 21:07

Ikea (girl)

honeylulu · 21/11/2023 21:08

Cherry Peel. Peel was her maiden name so he parents actually intended to call her that.

Also car mad family with son called Logan-Elan. (Should have been Lotus Elan but they thought Lotus was a bit too flowery and girly.) His brother was called Fraser which sounded fine until you found out it was spelt "Frazor".

Unusual names of people I've met which I really like:
Velvet
Cinderella
Sapphire
Serenity
Sorrel
November
Fuchsia
Leilani
Have only met one of each!

Honeybee - a very pretentious family
Paisley
Zephaniah

I know a Paisley and a Zephaniah....both toddlers... Are you in Cornwall?

PonkyPonky · 21/11/2023 21:09

Oh and if anyone has seen season 2 of ‘Is it cake?’ One of the contestants had siblings called Rightousness, Consciousness and Reality 🙄

Stillthewrongsideof40 · 21/11/2023 21:09

I didn’t think they were odd either. Just unique. I’ve only ever met one of each name. Actually considered using all of these names for my own daughter when pregnant. Instead I went for a traditional Scottish name …. There a 3 in the class with the same name 😫

RedRobyn2021 · 21/11/2023 21:09

Serephina

Caspian

honeylulu · 21/11/2023 21:10

Oh also there was a girl at my daughter's nursery called Oceana which I thought was lovely until I saw it in her peg and it was actually "O'Sheayana".

Luckydog7 · 21/11/2023 21:10

Lazerus. A very pale and quiet boy with white blond hair. My step dad a (usually) stoic ex-vicar, spent the entire visit stifling giggles whenever the lads mother called his name and he would revive for a few moments to reply.

jackles · 21/11/2023 21:11

I was called after the town where I was conceived. I have never met anyone else with my name. Nb. It's not in the UK, though I am British.

jackles · 21/11/2023 21:12

RedRobyn2021 · 21/11/2023 21:09

Serephina

Caspian

My grandson is called Caspian.

user6776 · 21/11/2023 21:13

@timeforacoffeebreak Ha, maybe we're from the same town! Beginning with B?

AQuantityOfNaughtyCats · 21/11/2023 21:14

noodlezoodle · 21/11/2023 20:44

Dimple. Impossible not to smile at that name, it's lovely.

Is she a pharmacist? I met a pharmacist called Dimple!

wossgoinon · 21/11/2023 21:15

Altair.

Her dad named her after a star. Beautiful name

Scutterbug · 21/11/2023 21:15

At my school there was a Cherry Brakewell.

Elsiebear90 · 21/11/2023 21:16

Marvellous
Forrest

I had a patient who had a name I’d never heard of, I called it out and he told me off for pronouncing it wrong, I said “I’m sorry how do I pronounce it? I’ve never come across it before”, he said “yeah I checked Facebook and I’m the only one in the world, my mum said she just made it up” But was outraged I didn’t know how to pronounce it 😂

I know of a few girls named Charlie. Has never struck me as odd. Neither is Star nowadays. Or Cherry particularly.

I didn’t think they were odd either. Just unique. I’ve only ever met one of each name. Actually considered using all of these names for my own daughter when pregnant. Instead I went for a traditional Scottish name …. There a 3 in the class with the same name 😫

NoMumLeftBehindLiz · 21/11/2023 21:18

@sparklefresh
My niece went to school with her apparently...unless she's having me on Hmm

polkadotpixie · 21/11/2023 21:18
