I thing a longer ‘traditional’ type name would work best.

I have to agree that Shay is only unisex on American based naming sites.
In the UK and Ireland it is a boys name.

So if you are in the USA don't think twice. On the other side of the pond maybe it would be better as the middle name.

Shay is usually short for Seamus/Seumas which is a boys name.

However, there is a thread going about Shanes with lots of boys names and one Shane Gould so being called Shane didn’t hurt her.

Why choose a name that is going to have many question whether she is a boy or a girl?

Shea makes me think of Shea butter and I thought it's pronounced differently?

If you want to call her Shay, why not use a longer name on the BC (Babies called Shay in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)), or call her a girl's name like Fay?
