Rex

Thoughts on Rex, have you met anyone with this name? I know for some people there's a dog's name association (although I've never met a dog with this name). Looked it up and it was ranked 142nd for boys names in U.K in 2022 so isn't that uncommon. Other suggestions very welcome just nothing too common like Noah, Theo, Leo, Arthur etc.

It seems a bit try-hard plus the doggy associations.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 11/11/2023 15:50

I know a dachshund called Rex so I admit that’s my first thought.

It’s naff for a person - it means King, so it’s like calling him Prince or Earl

I like it but I know an absolutely lovely 12 year old called Rex so positive connotations

YouWontHearTheLastOfIt · 11/11/2023 15:56

Sounds like an Alsation

This, plus, for me too, it is a dog's name.

EndofDaze · 11/11/2023 15:59

I like it but I already had a Max and it made me think of a pair of German Shepherds. In the event second child was a girl who has always expressed relief that we didn’t opt for the female version of Rex.

SallyWD · 11/11/2023 16:01

I know two people called Rex - a rather cool man of 40 and a boy of 10.
I really, really like the name.

Theoldwoman · 11/11/2023 16:02

My cousin is Rex, he’s 55.
I went to school with a few.
I don’t know any under 50.

It's an old-fashioned name for a dog, like Prince, or Fido.
For a human baby --- hmm. Maybe.
It will probably become more popular, it seems to be one of 'those' names.
If you're after an R name, how about Ron/Ronnie?
Or Reg/Reggie?

LivingOnTheVeg · 11/11/2023 16:03

T-Rex

TomatoSandwiches · 11/11/2023 16:05

I like it, DC3 was going to be Rex but DH vetoed it.
I know far more dogs called Max btw but no-one mentions that.

MonsteraMama · 11/11/2023 16:06

I know one human Rex, about mid 50's, he's a massive knob.

Two dogs, one English mastiff and one Jack Russell. Both good dogs and kind of hilarious to see them together. Have a guess which Rex is the boss Rex.

I also had a bearded dragon called Rex as a kid. He was a good boy.

Not keen on it for a human child.

Screamingabdabz · 11/11/2023 16:08

I know two older men called Rex. From opposite ends of the social spectrum. Both very successful (one is a Dr, one is a self made millionaire), both absolutely lovely people. It’s a good name!

remindersofhim · 11/11/2023 16:09

I really like it. Anything that's even a bit unusual won't be loved by everyone!

IglesiasPiggl · 11/11/2023 16:17

I only know one Rex, who is 8. He's lovely, but his parents are definitely try-hards and not nearly as cool as they aspire to be with the name choice.

dontforgettofloss · 11/11/2023 16:19

Stacey Solomon has a son called Rex, that's the only Rex I know of

43ontherocksporfavor · 11/11/2023 16:19

Awful for a child, great for a dog or a dinosaur.

acemenace · 11/11/2023 16:21

I have also definitely come across more dogs called Max! Maybe dog naming trends are becoming more 'human'

I know 2 girl Rex's who really suit the name. Only boy I know of as Rex is Stacey Solomon.

maddiemookins16mum · 11/11/2023 16:25

It makes me think of a bouncy golden retriever.
Alec is nice.

MaloneMeadow · 11/11/2023 16:25

Absolutely awful. A name given to a dog when the owner is a chav and wants it to be ‘well hard’
