Rex

Thoughts on Rex, have you met anyone with this name? I know for some people there's a dog's name association (although I've never met a dog with this name). Looked it up and it was ranked 142nd for boys names in U.K in 2022 so isn't that uncommon. Other suggestions very welcome just nothing too common like Noah, Theo, Leo, Arthur etc.

I was at school with a boy who went by Rex, but it was his middle name (his first name is Peter or David or something). You could do that so he has the option of a less 'out there' name but can use Rex if he wants to.

GoodVibesHere · 11/11/2023 17:01

I prefer Dex (as in Dexter)

PennyProud · 11/11/2023 17:34

I think I've met 2 men called in the past 5 years or so. I remember because the name did remind me of a dog (sorry).

Both were elderly men.But I work with elderly patients 90% of the time. Definitely uncommon but if you like it, that's your choice. Toby used to remind me of horses but the name has grown on me 😁

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/11/2023 17:39

I think it’s lovely. Who cares about dog associations - I actually have never met a canine Rex anyway.

FloweryName · 11/11/2023 17:42

Rex is a dogs name to me, like Fido.

Hermittrismegistus · 11/11/2023 17:42

Rex the runt.

Thoria · 11/11/2023 17:48

Yes, it has doggy associations but it's also a proper human name. It's not as if you're naming him Fido or Rover.

If I meet a toddler/kid/adult called Rex then it takes me about 3 seconds to get past the doggy associations and from then on it's just that person's name.

If you like it then I say go for it. It's cute for a little kid and also dignified for a grown-up. I know a university lecturer named Rex and nobody gets him confused with a dog (although I've overheard that he's nicknamed Sexy Rexy by some of his students).

Dinosaur

mumtotwox · 11/11/2023 19:03

My CRM system is called Rex so I just can't get onboard with it 😆

roseberrycherry · 11/11/2023 19:23

I know a Rex he is 3! Cute name

I know a dachshund called Rex so I admit that’s my first thought.

Do we know the same sausage!?

Daisybuttercup12345 · 11/11/2023 20:45

Lovely dogs name.
One elderly Uncle nearly 90.

BeingGivenMoney · 11/11/2023 20:50

It doesn’t make me think of a dog but it does make me think of Jurassic Park.

Pewpewbarneymcgrew · 11/11/2023 20:51

Dog or dinosaur

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/11/2023 21:10

It was my grandfather's name. He'd be 104 if he were still alive.

SecretVictoria · 11/11/2023 21:15

Only seen it as a name in the Sweet Valley High books ‘Dangerous Love’ and ‘Dear Sister’. Elizabeth’s boyfriend gets a motorcycle and Jessica hates it as their cousin, Rexy, died in a motorcycle accident.

Winnipeggy · 11/11/2023 21:24

LylaLee · 11/11/2023 15:49

It seems a bit try-hard plus the doggy associations.

How can a name be try hard? Jeez ppl are mean

I mean....I don't know what to do with this information

abc56 · 11/11/2023 21:27

Yes I know a 4 year old. Also think Stacey Solomon has a son with this name.

LegallyBrunette01 · 11/11/2023 21:32

My grandfather's name and he was absolutely the best man in the world.

bearfood · 11/11/2023 21:38

Absolutely love it, didn't know it means 'king' but that isn't a bad thing.

Thoria · 11/11/2023 22:54

Yes, I don't see why it meaning 'king' is a bad thing.

Sarah means 'princess' and nobody complains about that.

Marshmallowtoastie · 11/11/2023 23:11

I like it but think it’s very of it’s time, and maybe a bit 5 years ago

rex is absolutely not a ‘well hard’ dog name though. At best it’s a traditional dog name that I don’t think people actually use anymore, like spot. I also don’t think the dog name thing is important to anyone reasonable. Dogs are called all sorts now. I know plenty of Daisy, mabel, Luna And poppys that are dogs for example but that doesn’t stop people suggesting them here

TheChosenTwo · 11/11/2023 23:14

I know 2 dogs called Rex and no humans. I think it’s the opposite of try hard, I think it’s a lazy name 😂
not keen on it for a human.

nocoolnamesleft · 11/11/2023 23:15

Use it as a middle name. Thomas Rex would make for a cool nickname, for instance.
