Longer name for Ellie?

Husband loves Ellie for DD due in January. I have worked with children for a long time and have met many many Ellie’s so it doesn’t feel fresh and exciting to me and isn’t making my heart sing. I also like a longer name that has options which Ellie doesn’t. So I’m wondering if we can come up with a compromise and find a long name I love, which can sometimes be shortened to the name he loves.

I like Eloise and Eliana but I don’t think they’re quite right.

Does anyone have any suggestions of names that are feminine but strong and can be shortened to Ellie?

TIA

I like Elaine, but may still be dated
other ideas are Maryelle or Ellery
I like Eloise, but think Eliana is just too trendy

Eleanor is feminine and strong, but perhaps a bit boring to you? I love it.

Eloise and Eliana are certainly feminine but neither are what I think of as strong. Agree that Eliza and Ellen or Elin fit the bill, however. I also like Elke (though might be strange without the appropriate cultural heritage?) and Elsa (though a bit ruined by Frozen).

What about Elspeth?

Elena is pretty and could be shortened to Ellie. I do agree though, a million Ellies at the moment.

My sister is Eliana.

Farmageddon · 01/11/2023 17:16

The obvious one is Elinor, but you could also go for something more unusual like Elisandra.

My daughter is called Ellena. An adaption from Alana as my husband didn't read past A in the baby name book 🙄

I know an Eleni who’s sometimes called Ellie
