Longer name for Ellie?

Husband loves Ellie for DD due in January. I have worked with children for a long time and have met many many Ellie’s so it doesn’t feel fresh and exciting to me and isn’t making my heart sing. I also like a longer name that has options which Ellie doesn’t. So I’m wondering if we can come up with a compromise and find a long name I love, which can sometimes be shortened to the name he loves.

I like Eloise and Eliana but I don’t think they’re quite right.

Does anyone have any suggestions of names that are feminine but strong and can be shortened to Ellie?

TIA

A very good friend is Eleonore. DD has a friend Eluned, a Welsh name, the u is pronounced as a long eee.

I like Elinor (with that spelling)

We've got a pupil at my school called Elody - I've never come across an Elody before but it really suits her.

Once taught a lovely girl called Elena too.

It's a Welsh name, but it's normally pronounced Eh-LYNN-ed.

I know an Elora. That could be shortened to Ellie and isn't a run of the mill name

JussathoB · 01/11/2023 18:06

Elizabeth? Lots of options.

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/11/2023 18:10

Elouise is lovely. I know one, shortened to Ellie.

Ok. My daughter went to school with an Elouise who shortened it to Ellie. Plus when I checked, Eloise and Elouise meant different things so I thought that would imply they were different names.

Dacadactyl · 01/11/2023 18:16

Eleanor. Strong and timeless.

ElleBelleLou · 01/11/2023 18:19

I'm Ellie, but my real name is Eleanor (pronounced El-a-nOR not El-e-nA as a lot think)

I also know an Elise who goes by Ellie, an Eloise who goes by Ellie and an Elodie (which I love that name so much!!) who goes by Ellie. I also know a few Elle's who pronounce it Ellie 😊

Poppins2016 · 01/11/2023 18:20

Amelie could work (not sure about "strong" vibes but it's feminine)!

AutumnIsMyFriend · 01/11/2023 18:21

If you are going to choose Eloise be prepared for loads of people spelling it incorrectly as evidenced by this thread 🙈

I really like Élodie.
