Honest opinions on these four baby girl names

Hi,

I've made a couple of posts in the past to help us find a name for our baby girl, they've really helped to narrow down our options and we think we may be ready to settle on a name.

Just to be sure, I'd we'd rather hear honest opinions now just based solely on our shortlist, as we're not sharing the names with anyone until she is born so reactions are difficult to gauge.

Any opinions good and bad are welcome 🙂 we want to make sure there's nothing negative as well that we haven't already thought of.

Shortlist : Callie, Erin, Raine, Nova.

Thank you 😊

I think Callie and Erin are lovely.

LulooLemon · 31/10/2023 18:42

Erin is the nicest

Jewelspun · 31/10/2023 18:42

Callie, Erin, Raine, Nova

Callie and Erin are lovely names.

Raine and Nova are more appropriate to name horses.

NigelTheCrab · 31/10/2023 18:43

Erin

daisypond · 31/10/2023 18:44

Callie- OK. But it’s better if short for something.
Erin -OK if you have Irish links.
Raine -no.
Nova -no, horrid.

Dragonsandcats · 31/10/2023 18:45

like others, I think Callie and Erin are lovely names. not so keen on the others.

CuteCillian · 31/10/2023 18:46

I think Callie is the nicest sound, but I'm a big believer in letting the baby choose/develop into themselves so would offer a longer name.
From a previous MN post for Callie;
Calliope means beautiful voice
Callista means most beautiful
Calantha means beautiful flower
Callia means beautiful

TeenDivided · 31/10/2023 18:48

Not so keen on Raine.
I've personally only heard of Nova from The Archers Archers or Vauxhall Nova
Callie sounds like a nickname for Caroline (Caroline is nice though)
Erin is my favourite from your list.

fluffypotatoes · 31/10/2023 18:48

Callie - lovely
Erin - great! My favourite.
Raine - not so keen.
There was a Vauxhall Nova. - Nova in Spanish means doesn't go I think. It was a case study in business gcse

MargotBamborough · 31/10/2023 18:48

Callie - nice
Erin - lovely
Raine - awful
Nova - ancestor of the Vauxhall Corsa

ItsFreeOnFriday · 31/10/2023 18:49

I like Erin and raine the most. But raine does make me think of princess dianas stepmother. It’s pretty besides that association though. I don’t like Callie unlessshort for Caroline which is such a pretty name IMO

Robinbuildsbears · 31/10/2023 18:49

Love Erin and Raine. Callie is lovely if it's short for something, not a fan just on it's own. Nova just makes me think of TIMs, it's a popular chosen name for them.

Clariana · 31/10/2023 18:50

I agree with others.

Erin, lovely
Callie, nice

The other two, I don't like

superking · 31/10/2023 18:51

Nova makes me think of the car, Raine works as a middle name but I don't like it as a first name. The other two are nice.

flyinginsect · 31/10/2023 18:51

You do not need to have Irish links to use the name Erin ffs. I am so sick of reading that on here.

whatausername · 31/10/2023 18:52

Raine makes me think of a depressed, melancholy soul

RuthW · 31/10/2023 18:53

Nova is the only one I'd consider.

ReviewingTheSituation · 31/10/2023 18:53

Erin - lovely, definitely the best
Callie - OK as a shorter version of something else

Raine and Nova - big no to both

whatausername · 31/10/2023 18:53

Raine makes me think of a depressed, melancholy soul

Which is odd as I quite like a rainy day. But every time I read "Raine" that is what comes to mind.

cptartapp · 31/10/2023 18:55

Callie - no. Sounds incomplete and reminds me of callipers.
Erin - absolutely lovely.
Raine - no.
Nova - definitely no.

SirChenjins · 31/10/2023 18:57

I like Erin and Callie.

Raine makes me think of acid as per Diana’s stepmother’s nickname and Nova is a car/hippy dippy.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 31/10/2023 18:59

I really like Erin.

Raine shoulds depressing and Callie seems unfinished or something.

With Nova, I just now have the lyrics to Oasis's Champagne Supernova in my head. I still think Nova would be my second choice.

Bobbybobbins · 31/10/2023 19:01

I like Erin and Callie, though I might have Callie as a nickname.

Not keen on Raine or Nova.

ShoesoftheWorld · 31/10/2023 19:02

Really like Erin. Not keen at all on the others. Callie is far too nickname-ish. If you were to give her Caroline or Calista or Calliope as a full name it would be different.

HoHoHoliday · 31/10/2023 19:05

Callie - nice but feels like a nickname, like it should be short for something (Caroline, Calista, Catherine).

Erin and Raine - both wonderful beautiful names.

Nova - sounds like a science research project name, and she'll probably find people call her "No" for short which doesn't sound nice.
