Honest opinions on these four baby girl names

Hi,

I've made a couple of posts in the past to help us find a name for our baby girl, they've really helped to narrow down our options and we think we may be ready to settle on a name.

Just to be sure, I'd we'd rather hear honest opinions now just based solely on our shortlist, as we're not sharing the names with anyone until she is born so reactions are difficult to gauge.

Any opinions good and bad are welcome 🙂 we want to make sure there's nothing negative as well that we haven't already thought of.

Shortlist : Callie, Erin, Raine, Nova.

Thank you 😊

Erin

I like Callista nn Callie but not Callie on its own (even though I do like a lot of "nicknames" on the birth certs).

Celia24 · 31/10/2023 19:06

I've always loved Callie or Callie Rose

YourWinter · 31/10/2023 19:07

Erin is lovely, the other three aren’t.

Whataretheodds · 31/10/2023 19:08

Nova means "doesn't go" in Spanish. It was the name of a popular small car. To me it doesn't work as a name: it sounds like someone has tried to make a name up.

Callie I really like.
Erin doesn't especially appeal but lots of people love it and it certainly doesn't switch me off.

Raine - I'm ambivalent

neilyoungismyhero · 31/10/2023 19:09

Might end up with acid Raine, so wouldn't chose that one.

pilates · 31/10/2023 19:09

I only like Erin

Holidayhell22 · 31/10/2023 19:11

I like Erin the most.

BlowingAway · 31/10/2023 19:20

I actually like all of them!

Itwasamemo3 · 31/10/2023 19:22

Erin wins hands down.

Apossum · 31/10/2023 19:24

Personally I think Nova and Raine are truly terrible names, but Erin is beautiful, and Callie is also rather lovely.

PleaseBePacific · 31/10/2023 19:25

I only like Callie. Erin is one of those names I just really dislike for some reason. The other 2 are awful.

Love the name Callia as posted by someone upthread

KirstenBlest · 31/10/2023 19:38

Callie - ok but looks like it's short for something - Caroline or Calista? Prefer Cally spelling.
Erin - not keen, find it a bit nothingy and harsh sounding. Having said that, it's the best on your list.
Raine - quite nice sound but too close to Rain
Nova - don't like it, makes me think of a 1980s small car. Norah is better

ladygindiva · 31/10/2023 19:40

They're all fine, but Erin is the loveliest by far imo.

madeleine85 · 31/10/2023 19:40

Callie is beautiful - I know a Calla Rae and she is a lovely girl, suits her name. A good tip i've heard (too late) is to spell out the initials to make sure they don't spell something weird, in case that swings your decision. My youngest's name spells LEG 😂

Awrite · 31/10/2023 19:49

I love the sound of the name Callie. I just don't like its spelling.

Erin is a lovely name.

Raine - it might grow on me.

Nova - my first though was Nora, as in virus. Not keen.

Callie, Erin, Raine, Nova

Callie and Erin are lovely names.

Raine and Nova are more appropriate to name horses.

Agree with this!

Workawayxx · 31/10/2023 20:01

Erin is my favourite. Also like Callie but would prefer as callia, Caroline or something else for full name as suggested above. I don’t know the name raine - is it pronounced rain or rainy? I’m not keen on nova.

Pemba · 31/10/2023 20:03

Callie is the only one that I quite like (although better as short for some longer name).

LonelyMom123 · 31/10/2023 20:03

I love Callie and Nova, Erin is nice but popular. Not keen on Raine.

MariaVT65 · 31/10/2023 20:05

Like Callie and Erin

Nova is a little odd, not heard it as a name before.

Raine will just be treated the same as the weather. This is also a scene in Friends taking the piss out of this name - makes the person sound like a weird hippy

RedCoffeeCup · 31/10/2023 20:06

Erin is my favourite

Blackandwhitemakesgrey · 31/10/2023 20:09

Raine - is that French? From googling it says its Indian? I've only heard of it as short for Lorraine which I'm not a fan of.

Erin is nice.

I've always had a soft spot for Callie yet I wouldn't name my own child that.

Nova is a bit too Oasis for me (showing my age).

mathanxiety · 31/10/2023 20:10

Erin is the best of the list.

Are you a poster with an older child whose name doesn't really go with any of the listed names though?

Olika · 31/10/2023 20:10

Erin

martinisforeveryone · 31/10/2023 20:11

Callie or Erin depending on what seems to suit her best when you look at her and what goes with your last name.
