Padro for a girl?

This is a slightly unconventional name but im a big fan and I think it is very cool and also unisex. Thoughts?

Clearly it is not a unisex name. So, if you name your daughter Padro she will be the only one. She might not appreciate being the only girl to be given a boys name.

If you want to start a trend or set a precedent for Padro to be unisex then change your name to Padro.

I actually like it because it doesn’t have ‘a’ ending and it doesn’t disappear into a sea of vowel heavy nothingness with Ada, Isla and Isabella. To my ear it sounds strong, cool and modern.

There are about a million nice girl’s names that aren’t full of vowels and don’t end in “a” and aren’t Padro (which my laptop just autocorrected to Pedro - says it all!).

She will spend her life saying “No, not Pedro. PADRO. P-A-D-R-O”…. As if Pedro wasn’t bad enough! It makes me imagine a weather-beaten Spanish farmer with a big moustache.

She’ll likely change it as soon as she’s able to do so. If you do pick it at least give her a lovely middle name she can actually use.

People will misread it as Pedro. Plus as others have said, the ‘PAD’ indicates ‘father’ in other languages, so wouldn’t describe it as unisex.

Cleo is quite a well-known female name

I'll admit It does make me think of Padron Peppers, but I expect they'll be out of fashion in a few years anyway.

But what if the poor kid is not arty and metropolitan?! That’s why the majority of us dont go for extreme names you have no idea what your child will end up like.

Dd2 is utterly confident glamorous party girl and would rock any name however mental because she is the most popular teen in town.

Dd1 is low key, quiet, hates drawing attention to herself and has a small lovely group of loyal friends. She would detest a wacky name.

I fully endorse originality and avoiding Eve/Isabel /Grace tedium but there is a middle ground!

Isn't the difference between Cleo and Padro that Cleo is a Greek origin name where there is no association with an "o" ending being male, whereas Padro sounds (is?) very Spanish, hence sounding male?

It does say something about her parents though and its not that they're arty and cosmopolitan
