This is a slightly unconventional name but im a big fan and I think it is very cool and also unisex. Thoughts?

It's another vote for no here. Why do you want to give your female child a unisex name?

crew2022 · 23/10/2023 23:03

Makes me think of tapas/ peppers

TheGoddessFreyja · 23/10/2023 23:10

Don't like that name at all- sorry 😬

Was about something like Petra?

Undunne · 23/10/2023 23:14

Don't like it at all - sounds like a made up boys name and a mis- spelling of pedro.

If you like the -o sound then Cleo as suggested by a pp is lovely.

Scissor · 23/10/2023 23:18

Well the obvious nn for Padro would be..
Either Padi or Pado
One's slightly racist, the other a sex criminal.
Or just call her Pa for short

BananaPalm · 23/10/2023 23:21

🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

Daisybuttercup12345 · 24/10/2023 00:58

Awful.
A boy and a priest.
Ugly name for a girl.

AllWeWantToDo · 24/10/2023 01:06

I'm confused, what does Cleo have to do with it

CallieQ · 24/10/2023 01:15

Nope

crumblingschools · 24/10/2023 01:18

What does it mean?

Oyen · 24/10/2023 01:19

It's a vermouth like a pp said. Or a surname.

Still, people get called Chardonnay, I guess. And have surnames as first names, like Taylor Swift.

Pocodaku · 24/10/2023 01:24

I like a lot of ‘o’ ending female names like Callisto, and don’t mind unisex names in principle. But Padro is harsh-sounding to my ear and too much like Pedro.

What does it mean?

Seemingly “Padro” isn’t the full name. It should be Padro-siragu and the meaning is given below (you need to click on image attached)

No.

Would you like that name, honestly?

I assume OP is making the point that both in Italian and Spanish, O endings are typically male. Therefore us simpletons think Padro is a male name. But silly us, Cleo ends in O and is a girl's name. Radio in Italian is female, cinema is male, there are exceptions in all languages.

Padro is 'unisex' which invariably means the parent is a bit sexist. Boy is a promotion and girl is a demotion. They'd never call their boy Cleo.

YokoOnosBigHat · 24/10/2023 02:09

That's a dog's name at best.

JustKen · 24/10/2023 04:03

I don't like it.

If you are looking for Spanish/Latin names there are so many that are much nicer.

PinkRoses1245 · 24/10/2023 07:06

I only think of padron peppers

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 24/10/2023 07:34

No. Horrible and ugly. Why not choose a nice girls name? There are plenty which aren't frilly.

Katiesaidthat · 24/10/2023 11:04

Oh, no. It sounds so male. Like many anglosaxons pronounce Pedro. And yes, I do know feminine words can end in -o. Mano is feminine in Spanish, as in la mano. But it is just so ugly. You asked for opinions, so here it is.

PurpleChrayne · 24/10/2023 11:06

Sounds like a shite Mexican restaurant in the Midlands.

MaloneMeadow · 24/10/2023 12:31

No, absolutely awful. At a stretch alright for a dog. Sounds like Pedro/Padron pepper

nameXname · 24/10/2023 15:47

It's a surname, the brand name of a drinks company and the name of a UK construction company.

A quick google says that it is also the name (in Portuguese) given to stone pillars marked with a cross used by Portuguese explorers to mark areas of land they were taking away from indigenous peoples in Africa and Asia during the colonial era. In other words, it's the name of a symbol of exploitation.

Pretend it’s your name. Introduce yourself as Padro to new people and gauge their reactions.
