Harry Potter names

I love all the names in Harry Potter, like Draco, Sirius, Abraxus, regulus, Arcturus.
I obviously can’t use some of them because they’re just too associated with Harry Potter, and I think the others are just a bit much, for someone who isn’t Greek.

Would love suggestions for boys names that could work instead, or even just ideas of types of names I may like to look for. I’ve tried googling constellation names for example. thank you!

Albie is similar to Albus.

CatChant · 23/10/2023 10:31

Google ancient Roman names.

lightelmqueen · 23/10/2023 10:34

I love all those names as well. I seriously considered Regulus or Remus for our son but ended up going for a completely different name in the end.

How about Lucius? I know it is a Harry potter name but it's also a well known name anyway. That or Lucian? I also considered this name for my son.

Albie is similar to Albus.

But not a name you would call a child?
Albert and Albie as a childhood nickname but Albie as a name is just cruel.

Prepare to be shocked. Albie was the 32nd most popular boy’s name in 2021.

DuploTrain · 23/10/2023 10:51

What about Atticus? Similar vibes.

Walnuthhwip · 23/10/2023 10:53

Thanks all! Just to be clear it’s not that they’re in Harry Potter that makes me like them, I’m not looking for a Harry Potter themed name, or I could just use Harry or George or something that’s less obvious.
it’s the style of Draco or Sirius for example, that I think is a nice, unusual, but still known name, with a nice sound

I love Atticus and Lucius but DH has vetoed both, but these are definitely along the right lines

Dorian or Fabian

My favourite name is my great great grandfather's, Aquila. It means eagle. His brother was Jeptha, another name due a comeback.

TheOutlaws · 23/10/2023 10:59

Remus, Albus and Rubeus are nice for boys.

Ginevra, Rowena and Fleur are nice for girls.

I don't know could we suggest other sites, but Nameberry has mutliple list with Harry Potter names, and on forums you will find much support for unusual names. Many of users are talking about really outrageous names.

links; https://nameberry.com/blog/harry-potter-names-beyond-harry-hermione
if you search Harry Potter into name search, you'll get specific users list, but I know there was one official list which was really good.
this is official one, but I don't know if they changed list since I was looking at the list https://nameberry.com/list/483/harry-potter-names/all

What on earth is "cruel" about calling a boy Albie?

Names I like that could pass as "HP inspired":-
Felix
Silas
Atlas
Lysander
Tennyson

MaloneMeadow · 23/10/2023 13:41

There is a girl in DD’s year group called Hermionie - always thought it was ridiculous and a very cruel choice!!

Albie is like chardonnay
a name of its time and place

peaceinourtime · 23/10/2023 14:02

Fleur sounds like a feminine hygiene product.

It was in my top three names, but I worried it was too linked to HP. Lovely name though.

A name isn't cruel just because you don't like it
