We already have a Martha Rose (surname 3 syllables) and I've just had a boy.

My DH likes Chester (it's a family name for him).
So we're thinking Chester James

Other options:
Rowan James
Ralph Anthony
Oscar Anthony/James

What do you think of Chester vs. the other options?

Not a massive fan personally. I like Ralph from your list.

cuckyplunt · 22/10/2023 08:12

Chester Drawers, please don’t do this..

cptartapp · 22/10/2023 08:13

I know a few of these lately.
Strongly dislike.

Hapshepsut · 22/10/2023 08:13

I think Chester is lovely. Ignore the "chester drawers" comment, any name in the world can be made into a silly sentence

FortunataTagnips · 22/10/2023 08:13

Awful. Rowan’s nice, though.

AllegroConMoto · 22/10/2023 08:15

It’s a nice place to go for a weekend, not a fan of it as a name.

Rowan and Oscar are nice.

oldestmumaintheworld · 22/10/2023 08:15

Unless you live in Arkansas avoid. It's awful.

Cupcakegirl13 · 22/10/2023 08:32

It’s a lovely place , fab shopping and some lovely restaurants .

falalalalal · 22/10/2023 08:39

It's a dog's name surely?

Cantthinkofadifferentname · 22/10/2023 08:42

What about James Chester?

daisypond · 22/10/2023 08:52

Not keen.
Prefer Ralph and Oscar.

MerryChristmasToYou · 22/10/2023 09:14

Lovely city, well worth a visit. As a name, not great. Shortens to Chest.

James is a filler middle name, Anthony is better but mind that the initials don't form a word.
Ralph - dislike
Rowan - like
Oscar - not keen

DameEtna · 22/10/2023 09:15

Don't like Chester as a kids name at all. The other names you've listed are much nicer.

Maybe use Chester as a middle name if it's a family name?

BoleynMemories13 · 22/10/2023 09:52

I know it's technically an old name making a comeback but for me it's a city, or maybe a dog's name. Really not keen.

Rowan is lovely though, second choice Oscar.

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 22/10/2023 10:01

I like Chester, I think it's very cool. I always think of the American guy that Scarlett ends up with from Four Weddings.

Ches is a cool nn too.

Reugny · 22/10/2023 10:03

I used to know a Chester. It's OK. No one ever called him Chester Drawers.

I like Rowan.

Oscar is now a very common name.

Don't like Ralph because of some of the famous people with that name.

James is like a name to use when you can't think of anything else.

TheBirdintheCave · 22/10/2023 10:10

It's a city or a surname, not a given name.

Megifer · 22/10/2023 10:10

Chester very cool. Cute for a baby but a grown up name too and timeless. Shortened to Ches which is also cool. Chester drawers just makes the person saying that look like they actually think it's Chester drawers, so jokes on them 😬

And, Chester Bennington ❤️

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/10/2023 10:14

I always think of Chester the Molester.

Uncle Chester was slang for paedophile for a while.

Ecnerual · 22/10/2023 10:45

I'm not keen on Chester either, I think of the city and the zoo.

From your list I prefer Rowan and Ralph, perhaps with Chester as a middle name as suggested by pp.

CacenCaws · 22/10/2023 10:51

No reminds me of a dog's name

spitefulandbadgrammar · 22/10/2023 11:01

Awful. Mind you, in the postnatal ward last time I was next to a woman who named her son Jester.

Doctor (hopefully): …Chester?
Mother (emphasising): Jester. It’s a good story actually – we thought of the name and both liked it.

Rt23 · 22/10/2023 12:55

Chester is the best one and really cool!

MadeOfAllWork · 22/10/2023 12:57

There are a lot of Chesters about. 3 in one class that I know of.

theduchessofspork · 22/10/2023 13:42

It always makes me think or teddy bears so a no as a first name for me

How about Rowan Chester?

I also like Oscar - Oscar Anthony - and you could stick Chester on the end if you wanted

Really dislike Ralph - like a small dog yapping
