Nice name. I think of Miriam Gonzalez first, not Margolyes.

Beautuful. As is Marian.

I think it sounds both prim and drab.

Marian is a beautiful name, I've always loved it. It will stand the test of time and I doubt there will be six other kids in her class with the same name - unlike Darcey or whatever the latest trend is. It is an older version of the name Mary and in Arabic and Farsi is it known as Mariam. I really don't think any religious connotations would be attached to someone with the name Marian.

I'm Irish and definitely think of Marian as being a religious name. Very Catholic associations with marian shrines and marian years, and other things Virgin Mary related.

apart from the people named Miriam/Myriam/Mirjam (…) that I know personally:

my primary association is the prophetess, tbh.
and after that was also Miriam Durantez.

Miriam Margolyes definitely wouldn’t be my first (or third) thought… it’s a perfectly useable and lovely name imo.

You sound kind of hateful yourself with that description.

Yeah this. Miriam is not a name I would give a new baby daughter to be honest.

lordloveadog · 21/10/2023 20:20

Lovely ancient name. Was top of my list if I'd had a daughter.

ValancyRedfern · 21/10/2023 20:24

It's beautiful. It's my dds middle name and she loves it too.

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/10/2023 20:28

I love it and think it feels current .

MrsW9 · 26/10/2023 10:19

Love it. Would love to use it, but it's too similar to my own name!
