Two middle names?

Hi everyone. I’m due a baby girl in 3 weeks and we’ve decided on the name Charlotte. For the middle names I would like two; Matilda May. Matilda as it’s one of my favourites and May as it’s a family name and it means a lot for me to use it.
My DH thinks it’s daft to have two middle names and thinks we should pick one or the other, as it will be difficult for her to fill in forms etc when she’s older (?) Our surname is Wallis.
What are people’s thoughts? Thanks x

Two middle names are fine. Your choices are all gorgeous.

Just to add, DH thinks we should save one of the other middle names for if we end up having another baby and it’s a girl. I’m not happy about this as there’s no guarantee we will have another girl, and I’ve then missed the opportunity to name my daughter what I’d like. I want to use May as it’s unlikely my siblings will have any more children, and May has been in the family for a long time.

I'm a Charlotte with 2 middle names (although one i added myself by deed poll). DS1 has 2 middle names. It's fine.

Moon5 · 12/10/2023 12:42

My son has two middle names. It’s fine.

Both my boys have two middle names and so do I. Love the name Charlotte

Bluela18 · 12/10/2023 13:17

Id definitely go for it , hopefully you DH will understand and come round to the idea. It's sounds really beautiful all together

WimpoleHat · 12/10/2023 13:19

I have two middle names and have always hated it. But that may just be me!

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/10/2023 13:20

All my children have two middle names, 1 I love but wouldn't use as it's too popular and 1 honoring name

babyswinging · 12/10/2023 13:21

My sister has 2 middle names, it’s fine.

MargotBamborough · 12/10/2023 13:21

If Matilda is your favourite name why don't you just call her Matilda May?

DogInATent · 12/10/2023 13:23

Matilda May, like the actress?

MariaVT65 · 12/10/2023 13:24

I actually have 3 close friends in my age age group (30s) who have 2 middle names, and they decided to continue it with their children. It’s probably more common than you might think :)

TheBirdintheCave · 12/10/2023 13:26

My cousin has three middle names! It's not affected her adversely at all. My son has two.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/10/2023 13:28

Me, my siblings, my dc all have 2 middle names. It's fine.

Olika · 12/10/2023 13:29

I think it's ok. I like the name.

Topseyt123 · 12/10/2023 13:32

I know a number of people with two middle names and it really doesn't seem to be an issue at all. I think it would be fine. It's literally just one additional word to write on a form and no big deal.

Your choices are all lovely. Go for it.

Even if you do ever have another girl, you are still not prevented from using either Matilda or May as her first name even though they are DD1's middle names. Families do that sometimes. I know of a couple of examples near here.

Hobnobs88 · 12/10/2023 13:56

Thanks everyone 😊 to those asking why not call her Matilda May, DH wasn’t keen on Matilda as a first name so we compromised on Charlotte.

My children all have two middle names. Tbh, just one would have felt a bit miserly (and I know that's ridiculous, but it's how I felt).

I think I would go for Charlotte May Matilda, though. Matilda May's a bit kind of overly assonant - reminds me of Minnie May (whose life Anne of Green Gables saved when she got croup).

They're all lovely names.

In that case I think it's completely unreasonable of him to put pressure on you to bend to his will over the middle names too.

Ilikeyourdecor · 12/10/2023 16:10

Most of my family have two. It's zero problem.

bleuclair · 12/10/2023 16:12

I have two middle names, as do my children. It's completely fine.

Westwindworries · 12/10/2023 16:21

My kids have two middle names each, it's never been an issue.

PickledScrump · 12/10/2023 19:01

Family tradition in both mine and DH family to have two middle names. None of us have any had issues filling in forms or anything else. He’s being ridiculous just to get his own way.

Housefullofcatsandkids · 12/10/2023 19:02

My eldest has two middle names, it's never caused any issues on forms

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 12/10/2023 19:34

There’s nothing wrong with two middle names. I would go for it!
