Very unique girl name (named after a holiday) ❤️ Will she be bullied? Is it cheesy?

My husband and I are due with our first child, a baby girl, at the end of February. I'll likely be induced 2 weeks early due to blood pressure which would fall exactly on Valentine's Day.

We have decided to call her our little lovebug.....

Ivy-Valentine🩷🎀❤️

Valentine pronounced just like the holiday!

It will be a double-barreled first name, but she will probably go by either Ivy or Valentine since it's long. We love having both names included in her first name. A lot of people have been saying to just make it her first and middle name, but we aren't worried about it since most people will call her one or the other and she will have options like I never had.

What are your thoughts?? Do you think she might be bullied around Valentine's Day since it is the holiday of love? Kids can be mean at that age! We are set on the name completely but any opinions are welcome. She will probably be wearing a lot of heart themed clothing and pink and red until she tells me she wants otherwise hehe, is it cheesy 🙈 I love names that have a story relating to the child's birth. Even if she isn't born on Valentine's Day it'll still be close enough so it works for us.

Personally I wouldn't because Ivy is close to 'I be', which is to me too close to asking to be someones valentine which I think would be something she would be made fun of. Nothing against ivy as first name and valentine or valentina as middle. Or go for something associated but removed like Ivy Rose?

Themaghag · 03/10/2023 23:44

Surely it ought to be Valentina rather than Valentine? And please, please, please don’t hyphenate it! I do think Valentina Ivy would be lovely though!

Are you saying you get a day off work for Valentine’s Day?

Are you ignoring all the suggestions for Valentina?

I don't like the name Valentina. And we still call it a holiday even though we don't get it off work. Just like we consider our birthday a holiday, but we don't get work off.

Valentina Ivy is absolutely beautiful. I prefer it that way round and as OP wants Valentine, Valentine Ivy could work beautifully

I think Ivy-Valentine is a pretty name for a girl and I even like the hyphen! I have a female friend who chose Valentine as her communion name and have always thought it's cool.

You should go for it. It's far from a "tragedeigh" (Reddit reference for the uninitiated).

When I read you describing Valentine's Day as a holiday I instantly figured "oh OK, OP is probably American". Some posters here seem rather irked with you for not being British just like them 🙄

Congratulations and all the best.

I love this comment for the Reddit reference and acknowledgement of the American 'hate' lol. Thanks for the well wishes

Chavvy. I loathe hyphenated first names.

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 03/10/2023 23:50

Well, Valentine is a boys name and is growing in popularity - I know two little boys called Valentine - so that’s a bit weird. Valentina would be the girls name.

Hyphens are really naff and give names a cheap feel, so I’d definitely lose the hyphen to make the name classier. Ivy Valentina would be very pretty and classy. Ivy Valentine fine although I might wonder why you chose a boys name. Ivy-Valentine seems chavvy, as does any name with a hyphen.

Millybob · 03/10/2023 23:53

I thought you were going to say 'Two weeks, Self-catering.'
It's still a terrible name. Children aren't dolls.

MuckyPlucky · 03/10/2023 23:54

Valentine = male version
Valentina = female version

You want to name your baby daughter after a male saint? Or do you want to name her the name with the correct gender?

Millybob · 03/10/2023 23:56

OH god, I've just read the bit about the heart-themed clothing.
That's child abuse.

Spottyhousecoat · 04/10/2023 00:01

Nice as a middle name no flow as a hyphened name.
I was admitted to be induced on valentines day dd was born on the 18th just something to bear in mind.

Zone2NorthLondon · 04/10/2023 00:01

Heart themed clothing is ghastly. She’ll look like a hooters girl or playboy mansion bunny in that get up

CandyLeBonBon · 04/10/2023 00:01

Please don't rewrite your unsatisfactory childhood through your baby. They are a whole human being, not a little mini-me through whom you can live vicariously.

Ivy is great.
Valentine is a cheese-fest. Don't do it.

Also don't do hearts and pink. She's not a chihuahua.

Mari9999 · 04/10/2023 00:02

@militarychick5260
She may be teased occasionally about her name but I doubt that she will be bullied about her name. It is not unique enough to get too much attention. It will not be pronounced the way that you want, and she will probably tire of correcting people.

Canisaysomething · 04/10/2023 00:02

I can’t imagine a successful professional woman with that name when she goes up.

Justforlaughs66 · 04/10/2023 00:06

Valentines Day is also celebrated here in the UK. 🙃

I love the name Ivy-Valentine, if she were to arrive that day.

I was born on a major holiday (im sure you can guess which one) and would've hated to be called after it but Valentines is beautiful ❤

PoseasRadicalActuallyMisogynistic · 04/10/2023 00:14

I had an uncle Valentine but that was his surname. I actually quite like the idea of a holiday name. Scarborough, Beverly or Whitby come to mind.

And Florence Nightingale was named after the Italian city.

wanttokickoffbutcant · 04/10/2023 00:16

I am Anna - Marie. I have been solely Anna since I was 12 - hated the double barrelled bit and wish I didn't have it.

TrickyD · 04/10/2023 00:16

Sorry is this has been mentioned already, but nothing is ‘very unique’ it is either unique or not unique.

Pretty messed up to sexualize an unborn child. A child wearing a sweater with a heart on it does not make them look like they belong in Playboy or Hooters. Get a grip

Ruthie Henshall is actually “Valentine Ruth.”
Her birthday is in March so no idea if there was any significance or if her parents just liked the name! Presumably she didn’t like it as she goes exclusively by Ruthie!!

Ivy Valentine is lovely. Much, much prefer it not double barrelled.

I'm going to guess Christmas? Thank you 🩷 and it's cool you were born on a major holiday though I'm sure it can come with some minor annoyance

Yes, Christmas day. 🙃

ODFOx · 04/10/2023 00:22

Ivy Valentine is cute (though I think St Valentine was male) but don't double barrel it.
Just Ivy Valentine is enough.

Dressed in hearts and pink like a Mattel dolly or cheerleader waitress, Yes that’s messed up. No I am not sexualising I’m simply confirming that girly hearts attire and pink is associated with those kind of roles. Jordan aka Kate Price that’s taking pink too far. You’re imposing a ghastly stereotype attire on a female child but acting oblivious to the associations of hearts and pink . Don’t act daft
