Celeste or Summer ??

Hi all, My husband and I are struggling with naming our new little baby girl (5 days old). We like Celeste and Summer. What’s your thoughts on these names? We would have the favourite as first name and the other as middle name. So, either ‘Celeste Summer’ or ‘Summer Celeste’. Any thoughts really welcome. Any warnings about why these names might not work. Please be brutally honest! Also, any nicknames for either one as I’d like to use a cute nickname but can’t think of any for these names. Thank you for your thoughts!

We can see this thread is quite old now but if you’ve landed here looking for baby naming inspo, our recently updated cute girl names offers lots of ideas, which you may find useful. Flowers

Have you said them out loud along with the surname? Sometimes the surname can change the way the names roll off the tongue. However, I like both. Have a friend whose daughter is called Summer and they call her Sums for short.

Morestrangerthings1 · 22/08/2023 05:11

Celeste is lovely.

Sorry OP but summer reminds me of a stripper name. Brutally honest!

VenusClapTrap · 22/08/2023 05:12

I like Celeste.

Fraaahnces · 22/08/2023 05:13

Celeste… it means “Light”. I grew up with two Celestes and they’re both amazing humans. Both stunning, funny, kind and interesting.

WomanAtWork · 22/08/2023 05:15

I prefer Celeste, you could have Cellie or Lissie as a nickname. I think it’s pretty and also unusual.

Personally I wouldn’t want to be called Summer. I always think it’s interesting people never consider calling their kid Spring, for me it’s the same “feeling” about the name.

SorrowsPrayers · 22/08/2023 06:04

Summer Celeste sounds to me like Summer Solstice.
Celeste is lovely. Summer is not.

MayMi · 22/08/2023 06:30

I really like both names but I just have to say - I know a Celeste and she got teased at school by kids calling her 'molest' 😓

As I said, I really like the name and I hadn't noticed the rhyme myself until she told me, so not everyone would think of it tbh.

Saturnsmoon · 22/08/2023 06:31

I think Celeste is lovely and you could have Cece (seesee) as a nickname.

Morestrangerthings1 · 22/08/2023 06:36

Cece is a lovely nickname. I agree.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 22/08/2023 06:41

Celeste fir me too.

Butterflyflybutter · 22/08/2023 07:10

I feel like Celeste aligns itself more fittingly with French identity and runs the risk of being kitschy on an English girl, similar to Capucine or Claudette.

WavingGreenFlag · 22/08/2023 07:38

Cilest contraceptive.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/08/2023 07:42

I like Celeste but am not keen on Summer.

SummerSkiesBikeRides · 22/08/2023 07:57

I like both and think they're both really pretty, feminine and have beautiful nature associations like the stars and the sun 😊 i don't think Summer is a stripper name and i don't think people will think of molest when they hear Celeste. Both lovely names OP!

Kaceeee · 22/08/2023 08:08

I don’t really like summer and think it does not fit to have as a middle for Celeste. Celeste is lovely, nickname could be El/Elle or Cece

WinonaRiderHorsey · 22/08/2023 08:51

Congratulations OP! Regarding the comment about Summer being considered a stripper name, I understand where they're coming from. However IMO I think Celeste could just as easily be appealing to a British stripper because it carries a sense of "exoticism" and uniqueness. Personally of the 2 I would choose Celeste on the basis that it's currently much less popular.

Trixiefirecracker · 22/08/2023 08:55

Summer is awful. Celeste is much nicer.

Summer - dull and overdone.
Celeste - haughty, molest, contraceptive.

Celeste 100%

Not a fan of Summer at all.

Chanhedforthis · 22/08/2023 13:16

Summer

Celeste is a brand of contraceptive.

wakeuptooearly · 22/08/2023 13:35

Celeste is beautiful, nickname Cece

mosiacmaker · 22/08/2023 13:36

Definitely Celeste, it’s classic but unique and she could be a model or a president.

FayCarew · 22/08/2023 16:05

I don't like either of them.
Celeste - Marie-Celeste and Cilest
Summer - sounds like Bummer

ammyy · 22/08/2023 19:33

I don't think they go that well together since they are stylewise very different from each other. Kinda like naming your child Kylie Sandrine for example. Celeste to me is french grandma and Summer is quite 90s vibes. Of the two I prefer Summer but would pair it instead with maybe Selina

martinisforeveryone · 22/08/2023 19:40

You asked for brutally honest OP. Sorry I don't like either and I especially don't like the combination.

If you're dead set on one, I'd go for Celestine, which means heavenly and I'd not bother with a middle name, which is a trend that I'm noticing more often amongst people I know.
