It's no worse than Brooke.

There are nicer naturey names out there all the same imo.

It's funny the name Brooke gets a lot of bad press on MN! (Although the irony is I don't like it either)

I think it’s lovely and if you like it too then great! Go with what you like and what you think works for your baby!

Thank you

What about

Stream

Estuary

Channel

Bay

Pond

continentallentil · 10/08/2023 20:28

No, it’s not even an especially nice sounding word.

I’m not a particular fan of Autumn or Meadow, but they do at least have a pretty sound.

ShadowPuppets · 10/08/2023 20:29

If your surname is Windermere then go for it.

Fridaytomorrow · 10/08/2023 20:33

The only Lake I’ve ever met is male, and in his 50s - 60s. As he is from Scotland I’d assumed it was a Scots name.

DH refers to Lake’s son as Pond, but only to me.

Almost as bad as Summer, Skye and Storm

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:35

@ShadowPuppets , Lake Windermere is not a name of a lake. The name is Windermere.

You know what, I started typing that (thank you QI!) but stopped myself in pursuit of the joke 😂 thank you for fact checking me!

Probably should have gone with Ontario, Superior, Huron, Erie…

BiscuitsandPuffin · 10/08/2023 20:41

Have you considered Ricki?

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:41

I didn't fact check it. The mere part of the word gives it away.

Victoria might be a good middle name.

@ShadowPuppets , Lake Windermere is not a name of a lake. The name is Windermere.

Is that because a mere is another name for a body of water, a shallow one if I remember correctly, so the watery bit is already in the name?

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:42

although my first thought was Titicaca

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:44

Yes, @Fridaytomorrow , it would be like saying River Helm Beck or something

Window82 · 10/08/2023 20:46

Oh I disagree I like it, I feel like it’s a name Gwenyth and Chris would have used. Prefer it to River, Apple or Ivy etc

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:46

Who's Gwenyth?

jumperoozles · 10/08/2023 20:47

I love it

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:49

Lake has a river flowing in and out. Mere tends to be standing water, I think.

ActDottie · 10/08/2023 20:49

It’s awful it’s not a name.

user11121314 · 10/08/2023 20:53

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 20:46

Who's Gwenyth?

Paltrow I assume

I like it & if you like or love it then use it!
Apart from on here I don't think anyone would come up to you in real life & say what an awful name you've called your baby girl.
If they do they then they're a rude fuckwit.

e.g. Personally I think Nora, Ethel, Enid & Winifred are awful names but in real life if someone told me that their baby girl was called one of those names then I'd just politely say "that's nice".
Though if it was a name I liked I would say "I love that name"

HeadacheEarthquake · 10/08/2023 20:58

Went to school with a Laken (f) nobody batted an eyelid

YoSof · 10/08/2023 20:59

I mean this kindly, but please don’t do that to your child.

KirstenBlest · 10/08/2023 22:24

@user11121314 , Ms Paltrow is Gwyneth.
Enid is a lovely name, but ruined by people saying is as Ee-nid.
I quite like Winifred.
