Good morning all,

So baby no3 is on his way - Due early August. Just wanted to get your opinions on our names that we cannot decide on:

Jesse-Beau - His nickname will be JB
Benjamin-Beau - His nickname will be Benji-Beau

We have 2 darling girlies Angel-Iris and Clover-Skye and coming up with a lads name has been pretty hard as we both thought we'd be having another girl and decided straight away on a name before even finding out the gender.

All your opinions are welcome. TIA

I like Benjamin. Jesse is ok. Not keen on Beau but if you are going to use it I would lose the hyphen.

Thank-you. We have a thing for double first names, hence the hyphen. Beau isnt a middle name, it's the second first name. Like the girl's names. :)

I can't say Benji Beau easily
Although I like Benji on its own.

Benjamin is a nice name but Benjamin-beau is very long. Truthfully I think adding beau on the end ruins both names.

I'm astonished at myself, but I actually quite like Benji-Beau!

Overall though, I think boys' names are better in the singular, and unhyphenated.

The -Beau is cute for a toddler but they will hate it as a teen and adult. I love both Jesse and Benjamin. Benji is a cute nn for when he’s a child. If you must hyphenate, I would go for Jesse-Benjamin

OP what would you do if he just wanted to go with the name Ben?

I like Benjamin for a first name but not Benji-Beau.

I hate the hyphen for both options, so Benjamin or Beau. Your kids names don't have to follow the same naming convention, they will rarely be said as a collective in their life.

I'm not being rude but can you envisage an adolescent or grown man wanting to introduce himself as Benji-Beau? Drop the hyphen and it's fine. They're not babies for long so the name needs to work at all ages.

Agree, as a teenager they’ll have stopped the hyphen and will just be ‘Ben’.

My DS has a friend from nursery that he’s met again at 6th form. His mum used to refer to him as Benji, people from primary are still mocking this

JB makes me think of Jelly Bean. Or Jim Beam bourbon. Or in Australia, JB is the biggest electronics store.

I think Jesse, Benjamin, and Beau are all great names though, and I’m sure your son will be fine with all of them.

But I do think once your children are in high-school and older, they will surely shorten to their first first name. Angel, Clover and Benjamin.

I think both are great names. Benji-Beau is a bit more babyish than Jesse-Beau, but honestly, as he gets older the name will evolve. His friends may end up calling him one or the other, or initials, or something completely different! As an adult, he can decide to use whichever combo he prefers. Go for it! There are too many unimaginatively named Jacks and Katies out there for my taste.

Sorry, I need to be honest here. Do you absolutely have to have have a hyphen? Your kids names are a mockery. Benji-beau isn't favourable at all.

Your names are lovely on their own including the girls names but the hyphen will be dropped as they get older.

I can't imagine a guy walking into a job interview introducing himself as Benji-Beau. It, dare I say it, sounds chavvy.

Have you got any other names to go after the hyphen?

I think the hyphenations just sound like such a mouthful. I can't imagine children shouting Angel-Iris come here! In the playground.

You're naming squishy, cute babies.

At some point you will have a spotty tween, a pissed off teen and a 25 year old with a job. Called Benji-Beau. Just no. Please don't do it to any more kids.

If I saw that name on a job application, my eyebrows would be in my hair.
