Willy?

My history teacher was called that. And his first name was Richard.

Drove past a butchers shop in Essex last weekend called Arthur Cock. I did look twice to check it wasn't me misreading it.

Cicatrice · 28/03/2008 10:53

I worked with a lady whose surname was Grocock.

You could see her brace herself when she phoned someone who didn't know her.

OrmIrian · 28/03/2008 11:26

Ah bundlebrent, 'arf a cock is better than none

BundleBrent · 28/03/2008 11:28

Very funny - that didn't even occur to me as I kept staring at the shopfront

Peachy · 28/03/2008 11:31

I know W Anker

seriously.

Beat that!

My good mate is also A Bagg- the difference is that she amrried into it so it's just luck, whereas the Anker chap was Baptised thus.

Peachy · 28/03/2008 11:36

Oh yes- there was a Richard Head we used to deal with in one job I had.

His business card said Dick, I guess it made it more memorable and must have worked for him!

Also knew a family of grewcocks, one taught secondary which must have been BRAVE!

We get teased over our surname but its not bad as such, just get a bit yeah yeah Ok of turning up to find some bright spark has booked restaurant tables as the Orange family or the Apples. DH used to get called Mr Banana a lot- winds him something fab now LOL!

Lazycow · 28/03/2008 11:40

I can't personally vouch for this but a work colleague swears that she used to work with someone who got married to someone called Mr Sex and then PROCEEDED TO USE HER MARRIED NAME at work !!

Apparantly they would go to presentations together and my colleague (who was her senior) would be forced to say 'my name is Ms xx and this is Mrs Sex'

OrmIrian · 28/03/2008 11:42

I knew a Mrs Goodenough.

littlemisspink · 28/03/2008 11:57

what about men with the surname BATES when they get mail etc it'll have MASTER BATES

PrimulaVeris · 28/03/2008 12:06

A friend of mine got a very hot date. Whilst chatting over dinner she said "Oh, I've realised I don't know your surname"

"That's because people always laugh at it"

"Go on, tell me. I won't laugh"

"Hiscox."

She then collapsed in a laughing fit. There wasn't a second date...

pootleflump · 28/03/2008 20:30

Knew a girl whose surname was De'ath

naturalblonde · 28/03/2008 20:34

My aunt is called Mrs Willey

naturalblonde · 28/03/2008 20:35

My mum knew someone called Norman Conquest

GirlySquare · 28/03/2008 20:58

I had this conversation with a work colleague and discovered that back in the day one of his customers waa Mary Hinge.

Apparently he had to repeat 'Mary Hinge', 'Mary Hinge', 'Mary Hinge'...to himself on the way to appointments

blueshoes · 28/03/2008 21:44

Harry Kok

fizzbuzz · 28/03/2008 21:44

Some American professor on TV the other day, had the surname Minger

Miggsie · 28/03/2008 21:47

Darling, if you go to an exclusive boys boarding school is pretty awful...!

We had an American colleague introduce himself as "Randy Hand"

cornishzulu · 28/03/2008 21:52

I can trump all of you... Badcock-Walters. His first name was almost Everard although the common sense of his mother prevailed over his father's perverse sense of humour.

cornishzulu · 28/03/2008 21:53

Also knew a Vader at Uni. First name Derva. D. Vader. Nice one

ExtraFancy · 29/03/2008 09:21

Our local councillor is called Rod Menlove

ninedragons · 29/03/2008 09:53

According to the global internal email directory of my company, in our Frankfurt office there is a Mr Fuck.

I also knew a Mr Sex some years ago. I wouldn't have touched him with yours.

SaraC1979 · 29/03/2008 13:20

My maiden name was BULWICH the worst thing is when I was born I had a normal surname PHILLIPS but my mum got divorced and remarried Mr BULWICH who adopted me and my sister, then after my school years my mum divoreced him and got a normal surname when she remarried again.
My twin changed her name to my mums maiden name but I stuck with Bulwich a while longer then got rid when I married and became Mrs Courtney.

I did my teacher training with a Miss Willey. And it was pronounced Willy. Must have caused much amusement in infant classes.....
