Girl at work had surname Cox. Got married and replaced it with Dix.

Furminger.

An old colleague had this name and it always raised a few eyebrows.

Machiter is a funny one too, especially when the couple in question were called Pat and Phil.

I had a teacher called Mrs Gotobed (pronounced "go to bed"). Apparently it's a regional name - Westcountry, IIRC.

I haven't read the whole thread but I met a woman once with the surname Freak. Which was bad enough but her baby in hospital after birth was referred to as Baby Freak and baby of Freak. Why would you not change it?!

I have no idea how true this is but someone I know claims she knows a girl called Amaia Heffer. Her mother re-married and hyphenated the names together so she became Amaia King-Heffer. I can't believe anyone would be that dense so I don't believe it's true but it's amusing nonetheless.

Hansom-Willey.

The parents were called Hansom and Willey so they hyphenated it for their child!

hansom-Willey, that just can't be true?

A colleague swears he taught a girl called Jenna Taylor.

Boocock and Adcock are relatively common names here.

I must say if I were called Death I would just go for it, none of this De-ath nonsense, never did Peter Death Bredon Wimsey any harm Grin

My surname is sooooo dull and everyday. I used to live in Whitby and there are some fabulous names there. My favourite was Argument, Mrs Sarah Argument, excellent Grin

Re Hansom-Willey: yes, I'm afraid it's true. I really had to bite my lip hard the first time the child told me his name. Unfortunately, I was surrounded by a group of other children all of whom burst into hysterical laughter!

On a completely separate occasion I was introduced to a lovely old Indian gentleman called Mr Dixit. I wrote his name down, whereupon he corrected me saying "No, it's spelt D-I-C-K-S-H-I-T". I'm guessing it sounds fine in his native language.
