DH really likes the name Lilith for a girl. I like it too, but not 100%.

Apparently its more popular in the US, but not so popular in the UK.

Just after some thoughts please?

I like it. I definitely think pagan/witchy vibes.

DuchessOfSausage · 04/07/2023 15:14

Dreadful and too similar to the overused Lily, Lila ... trend.

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 04/07/2023 15:15

Depending on your leaning Lilith is either a demon/devil/succubus or just a name.

I wouldn't use it personally even though it sounds nice.

Begonne · 04/07/2023 15:15

I think it sounds lovely, but the meaning of the name is a lot for a child to carry.

KnitMePurlMe · 04/07/2023 15:16

Frasier’s crazy wife in Cheers 😄

Ohmylovejune · 04/07/2023 15:17

Frasiers mad wife!!

Weefreetiffany · 04/07/2023 15:19

Look into the history of the name and decide if that works for you as a family and the pressure it will put her on as she grows. It’s a bit like calling a child Salome or Hecate, people do it but they’re really into it and the vibes/history behind the name

beeskipa · 04/07/2023 15:21

I think it's very cool and like it a lot, but I definitely also think of demons. That doesn't put me off it but it might make some people raise an eyebrow I suppose!?

RagingWoke · 04/07/2023 15:21

It has the obvious connections, also Lilith in supernatural (and various other pop culture references). It's 'fine' and very similar to lily which I believe is still quite popular.

To me it just feels a bit try-hard, like the parents were trying to edgy.

charlestonian · 04/07/2023 15:28

I think it's hard to say and sounds like you have a lisp...sorry.

SnackyOnassis · 04/07/2023 15:33

Gorgeous name, but people who know the connotations will make assumptions about your daughter or your beliefs.

Don't get me wrong, it's a deeply badass name in a biblical sense, but if you're looking for a simple, unproblematic, pretty name, this isn't it.

Babdoc · 04/07/2023 15:33

Rather nasty connotations, OP! Derived from the name for Sumerian demons, sterile females with breasts full of poison instead of milk. Then mentioned In Jewish literature as the evil first wife of Adam, banished from Eden.

gettingolderbutcooler · 04/07/2023 15:35

See Frazier series!!

RobertsRadio · 04/07/2023 15:37

CHEERS!

Doinst · 04/07/2023 15:39

Frasier's wife- very cool.
The demon of stillbirth and infant death- not so much.

PauliesWalnuts · 04/07/2023 15:40

I'm another one reminded of Niles Crane's crazy wife. But I do like Elspeth.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 04/07/2023 15:42

That would be very hard to say in my regional accent and several others I can think of. It would end up sounding lispy.

SirenSays · 04/07/2023 15:43

Other than sounding a bit lispy I like it.

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/07/2023 16:04

I like it. There are loads of Biblical names with less than stellar connotations which people use anyway, though I think it’s increasingly less relevant in a decreasingly Christian country, anyway. Every likelihood it would be shortened to Lily, so if your en or keen on Lily I’d probably avoid.

PickledScrump · 04/07/2023 16:06

I like it. Was the name of adams first wife but got banned from the garden of Eden for disobeying him and became a demon. Pretty badass as far as names go

GatesOfBabylon · 04/07/2023 16:08

It’s a strong pro-feminine name as Lilith in it’s Jewish origin was only admonished by god due to her standing up for herself and refusing to obey Adam. The name has earlier origins from Mesopotamia.

LoveYouHoneybear · 04/07/2023 16:14

Love it. I have a 7-month-old named Meredith which is similar, if Frasier's wife puts you off it.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/07/2023 16:17

Head vampire in True Blood

koalaklub · 04/07/2023 16:30

Does your DH play video games?

I think Lilith is the main villain in the new Diablo game.

dancinginthesky · 04/07/2023 16:40

It's a really cool powerful strong name but you gotta be the type of person who is cool with naming your kid after a woman who is associated with the demonic in religious circles

Lillian might be close but safer if it bothers you
