Yay or nay?

What impression does it give you?

I really dislike it and Beatrice. I find the Bee/Beet sound very unattractive and it does make me think of beetroot.

FluffMagnet · 14/06/2023 16:16

Love it. DS would have been Beatrix had he been a girl.

SkaneTos · 14/06/2023 16:19

Beautiful name! Makes me think of princess Beatrix of the Netherlands (the former queen, the king's mother).

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 14/06/2023 16:23

I love it. I can never decide if I prefer Beatrix (because of Beatrix Potter) or Beatrice (which looks and sounds slightly nicer IMO)

TallulahBetty · 14/06/2023 16:29

Awful. Frumpy, old-fashioned, lives in the country dahhhling and is married to Tarquin.

I think it’s a bit Harry Potter. To me the proper name is Beatrice and this is a bit of a bastardisation of it. Bea is lovely though.

All the Queen Beatrix from years gone by will probably agree with you!!!

I love it. Beatrix is the Dutch spelling. Beatrice the French.

DS would have been Beatrix if he'd been a DD

Ditto

Brendabigbaps · 14/06/2023 16:33

mines a Beatrix, you’ll get Beatrice too many times to count even when you tell them, repeatedly!

Haha well there you go, I was never good at history. Still how it sounds to this ignoramus!!

OuchIStubbedMyBigToe · 14/06/2023 18:00

What do you call a barmaid who can balance 5 pints on her head? Beatrix

(Sorry)

TrashyPanda · 14/06/2023 18:01

Lovely
but strongly dislike Trixi

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 14/06/2023 18:53

Prefer Beatrice and Beatrice means you won't get the awful Trixie as a nn.

Effy95 · 14/06/2023 19:49

Appreciate all the responses! Interesting that so many prefer Beatrice because I don’t think there’s a huge difference in how common they are, is there?

If we shortened it, we’d go for Bea/Bee but I don’t mind Trix/ie either.

Beatrice is a little too prim and proper for me, but I like the X in Beatrix. I guess they would get mixed up a lot though, hmm…

Love it. I know a 5 year old Beatrix she's lovely and fiesty. Always known as Beatrix so far

FayCarew · 14/06/2023 19:54

Beer tricks

borntobequiet · 14/06/2023 19:55

Great name.

StillWantingADog · 14/06/2023 19:56

Like it.
Helen George’s character in CTM (shortened to Trixie which I’m not so keen on)

bridgetreilly · 14/06/2023 20:43

Love it. Bee or Trix, but also as a full name.

peaceinourtime · 15/06/2023 03:26

Its nice but I think its starting to become overused and common? not that's problem, just noted.

Labradoria · 15/06/2023 04:53

I love the name Beatrice but always think people who name their child Beatrix are trying to be self consciously 'different'. I find it really awkward to say as well.

What an odd and somewhat condescending comment. My DGD is Beatrix in homage to Beatrix Potter. Both her parents loved the author as children.

Quite apart from that, it’s a normal spelling of an often used name.

I love beetroot so this is a plus 😁

I don't think it's odd to give your opinion about the name Beatrix on a thread titled "Honest opinions about the name Beatrix" 😅

I'll now add "likely to have an easily offended GM" to my opinion of the name.

Neither is it odd to comment on someone else’s opinion. I wasn’t offended, just remarking that the poster was somewhat judgemental in attributing the desire to be self-consciously different when choosing a name, rather than liking it for other reasons.

SneezyEvie · 15/06/2023 09:44

I love it, it’s punchier than Beatrice.
