Yay or nay?

What impression does it give you?

I don't understand why anyone would want a name that sounds the same, when pronounced in standard (wihout regional accent) english, as Beer Tricks. Why do that to someone? In some regional accents it's said Bee Tricks which is marginally less awful but still not a nice name.

Sorry but you asked for honesty and that's what I think.

JeminaPudd · 15/06/2023 09:53

Big nay. Beatrice is the proper name

Rapidtango · 15/06/2023 09:53

Great name. Bea for a little girl, Trix for a tempestuous teen and Beatrix, Bea or Trix for the woman she'll become.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 15/06/2023 17:17

Like it but our surname starts with a J.

bbypinkluffie · 15/06/2023 20:54

Genuinely love it, also Bee or Bea as a nickame is so cute

Beachywave · 15/06/2023 22:32

Not a fan sorry

cupcakesandt · 15/06/2023 22:37

I love the name but it seems very popular where I am. There are 3 in my sons class of 20! I also know 2 babies with that name.

flutterby1 · 16/06/2023 06:57

What ouchstubbed my toe said:

What do you call a barmaid who can balance 5 pints on her head? Beatrix

This joke came to my mind too.

Also Brexit

Are you sure they are all Beatrix not Beatrice?

There's recent thread on nameberry where more users preferred Beatrix over Beatrice.

My main problem is that name might confuse some people both when choosing Beatrice and Beatrix... it's small difference and some people might not even realize what difference is. That said, I vastly prefer Beatrice - I think of royal English medieval princesses, while I think of coloring pastel Victorian lady image when I think Beatrix.

Beatrice and Beatrix seem to be very popular on MN. I wonder if it is of the moment or something as I hadn't heard it around for ages and then recently it seems to be on a lot of lists. I have to admit I don't love the full name. I'm not sure why. Maybe, as someone said, it sounds quite stately and formal. Whilst there are names that are shortened because long like Susannah or Isabel, somehow those names don't sound as formal, even at full length as Beatrice/ x to me. Maybe it's just my personal associations though. That said, I do really really like Bea though which I think is a great shortening.

Hadtocomment · 16/06/2023 18:45

I also think I prefer the x ending as livelier sound and spelling.

midsomermurderess · 16/06/2023 19:54

Lovely, elegant.

fairycupcakes · 16/06/2023 20:14

It is lovely but I do prefer the softer ending of Beatrice x

isthisit83 · 16/06/2023 20:19

Idk why but I just think Dominatrix 🙈 Sounds like a porn or stage name for some reason. I like Bea and I like Beatrice.

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/06/2023 20:36

I prefer Beatrice ; I used to like Beatrix but now feel it is a bit faddy and past it in terms of fashion. As per the pps I also much prefer Bea as a nn to Trixie

lostat · 16/06/2023 20:38

I find it difficult to say.

continentallentil · 16/06/2023 21:42

Prefer Beatrice, it’s much more elegant

It’s the same name though. The Beatrix spelling seems to be more recently popular, I suppose as a change.

RuthW · 16/06/2023 22:10

Lovely

Newnamenewname109870 · 16/06/2023 22:11

I absolutely love it and think it’s a much quirkier and spunkier form of Beatrice

CorvusPurpureus · 16/06/2023 22:21

If it matters, Beatrix is definitely the earlier Latin spelling.

So whilst Beatrice might be 'softer' or whatever, it's a (nice) derivation.

Team Beatrix aren't adopting a new or quirky spelling. They're OG 😁

It isn’t really the same name though. That would be like saying Zach and Jack are ‘the same name.’ Obviously Beatrix is a variation of Beatrice, but it does have a different sound and, I think, a very different feel. So although they’re linked, they aren’t ‘the same name’ any more than Isabella and Elizabeth are ‘the same name.’

I really like Beatrice. For some reason I’m not such a fan of Beatrix but I can’t actually pinpoint why. There’s nothing particularly wrong with it. Just not as nice as Beatrice in my opinion!

Kanaloa · 16/06/2023 22:28

Thinking about it a bit further, I think to me Beatrix goes with names like Juniper and Orion and Sage. It just feels a bit ‘quirky crunchy mom’ from Instagram. But that’s just me judging it on nothing, I don’t know why I feel like that. Maybe I’ve seen a Beatrix that reminds me of that?

Nofreshstarthere22 · 16/06/2023 22:30

Love it but Be not Trixie

booksandcats22 · 16/06/2023 22:58

Love the name and Trix / Trixie is lovely too
