I want to call my baby Ianto after him in Torchwood: why is everyone on my case about it??

I am having a boy in a month or so's time. I really like Torchwood and I want to call my boy Ianto (pronounced Yanto) after that lovely guy in Torchwood. In fact the plan is to call him Ianto Owen Tosh (and surname). Whats wrong with this? DP is being very funny with me over it and I am really starting to get the hump. They are all proper names! I am not calling him after a football team, or Ikea or Nintendo or anything!

My parents aren't speaking to me over this. And my sister says I am losing it and should not be naming my child after people in weird cult spin-offs in which people constantly have sex with anything which happens along, male, female or alien especially when it has nothing much to do with the plot. Which is really HER going off on one in typical style!

They are just names. And I LOVE them, as I love the characters.

Please give me some feedback. I am on my sister's PC so probably won't be back to thread until later this evening but it people could give me constructive feedback in the meantime I would be most grateful.

does that mean you dont really have a funny sister

I liked her

marmadukescarlet · 21/02/2008 16:47

Tosh, what was your last fave TV prog The Bill (Tosh Lyons)?

I suppose it could be a worst (couldn't it?) at least the first name is a real one, spelt in the traditional Welsh fashion.

AuntyMable · 21/02/2008 16:48

I DO have a funny sister.. but she wasn't posting. Twas me. Under name of AuntieMable of course.

Sorry. Was avoiding writing an essay.

As an aside, I hadn't watched last night's episode yet - am gutted that there's a major spoiler on this thread

Ianto is actually nice, but I prefer Davros, or possibly Omega.

sparkybabe · 21/02/2008 18:45

Cassandra? Fang or Kodos?

cass66 · 21/02/2008 18:56

ianto is a lovely name, if you are welsh. and not winding everyone up rather magnificently.

twospecialgirls · 21/02/2008 19:19

this is one of those joke ones again isnt it !!!!
i really hope it is as that names awful !!(sorry) he will be called ian - to as no one will pronounce it right

it is a joke isnt it lol

expatinscotland · 21/02/2008 22:31

We haven't had a really good wind-up in ages!

Thanks for that.

kayzisbroody · 22/02/2008 07:49

I really like this name. I also love Torchwood(Jack is lovely). Dh suggested Ianto for our babies name if we have a boy so if you like it and can persuade Dh go for it.

AuntyMable · 22/02/2008 10:58

Rubberduck, to be fair, if you are behind with an episode, spoilers are going to be everywhere you see the word Torchwood; you can't really ban people from discussing it. It's a different matter to someone having watched the whole series somehow and posting about that.

I don't feel it was one of my better windups.. I was just filling a hour or so.. No disrespect whatsever to any Ianto-s out there.. I really do like the name.. the joke was really in that someone might name their child after a whole string of characters.. including tosh .. and then, when that seemed possibly believable I added in Captain Jack for good measure..

Yeah, but this was a thread about names ... didn't occur to be there'd be plot in it too. Have avoided the main discussion thread for a reason - just didn't occur to me not to read this one, doh.

And it's a pretty major spoiler about my favourite character - boo.

Am just feeling sorry for myself really. Carry on...

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2008 11:33

let me unspoil it for you, then Rubberduck, by reminding you about those wacky gloves.

RubberDuck · 22/02/2008 11:39

Oooo...

TotalChaos · 22/02/2008 11:43

First thought on reading OP last night - was it a Rhubarb windup . Now does Rhubarb have to write essays???

bobsmum · 22/02/2008 11:45

Dh wants Martha Rose if this baby is a dd. Lovely names IMO, but he's an OG member too so would get no end of stick I think. And that's not a wind up

AuntyMable · 22/02/2008 11:50

Martha Rose is lovely Bobsmum

Hasn't Aitch just made it worse for you RD. not better??!?

No I'm not Rhubarb.
