Could be Nicolas or straight Nico. Mainly worried about posh/pretentious…

At the moment Percy Jackson because it’s all my dd’s are interested in! Considering there is a massive Disney plus thing coming out soon this might be a factor to consider?

I would also assume of Italian heritage if straight Nico. I don’t really love Nicholas though tbh

BlueAndGreenStripes · 08/06/2023 17:21

I think it’s better as a nickname, in some accents (like mine) it would sound like a nickname rather than posh.

Redshoeblueshoe · 08/06/2023 17:21

It would make me think that someone loved Velvet Underground

drpet49 · 08/06/2023 17:22

That you were Italian

FlounderingFruitcake · 08/06/2023 17:23

I’d think you were italian

Another vote for velvet underground.

donkey86 · 08/06/2023 17:24

I would assume a girl, despite the -o ending, because of the Velvet Underground & Nico.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/06/2023 17:24

Nicholas is a great name. If you're English and pronouncing it Neeko I would briefly wonder if he was called after someone and that was why.

If you're Irish and pronouncing it Nicko, that definitely would not be considered posh or pretentious.

lankyhanky · 08/06/2023 17:27

I would think it's a name that is becoming very popular in the last year for some reason. I know it for girls and boys but the girl has constantly been mistaken for a boy as a result.

And yes my second though would be are you Italian? If not you are just trying to be edgy.

BarelyLiterate · 08/06/2023 17:28

I would assume the parents were F1 fans. Nico Rosberg & Nico Hulkenberg are German F1 drivers.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 08/06/2023 17:30

I would assume there was an Italian connection.

Comedycook · 08/06/2023 17:31

Rich European

SiobhanSharpe · 08/06/2023 17:32

Not as cool as you might think. Nick and Nicholas are classic but not over-used at all.

LongLiveGoblingKing · 08/06/2023 17:34

I'd think you were Italian or Vietnamese just because of the Nico's I know. I think it's a lovely name although I wouldn't use it if I had a very regional northern accent.

Luminousnose · 08/06/2023 17:40

My dog.

AndrexPuppy · 08/06/2023 17:41

I’d assume you had Italian or Greek connections

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 08/06/2023 17:42

Velvet Underground or Nico Rosberg

Tree543 · 08/06/2023 17:42

Velvet Underground

fridaynight1 · 08/06/2023 17:42

I would think you are Italian.

Wasn't Nico an Italian stud in a Jackie Collins book?

So1invictus · 08/06/2023 17:48

Before I moved to Italy I'd have said cool, female, Velvet Underground.
Having been here for 30 years, if someone said "I want you to meet my friend Nico" I'd know he was likely to be southern Italian and his actual name is Nicola, and he's between 50-60. He was named after his grandfather and isn't keen on his name.
I live in the area where San Nicola is big. But the name is falling out of favour now and in the 8 classes of teenagers I have, I don't have one.
It's definitely definitely not posh here.

DanceMumTaxi · 08/06/2023 17:50

It makes me think of restaurant near me - six by Nico. Or that you’re Italian.

Lk8920 · 08/06/2023 17:52

Thanks all. At least not too posh! It’s tricky - def my favourite, goes great with our surname and I think gives a bit of choice into growing up (ie Nick is a great adult name). Plus much more interesting than the rest of our shortlist (Henry, Arthur, Louis essentially).

But super conscious of the ‘is is trying too hard if we don’t have an Italian bone in our body?’ thing - does worry me a bit!

I’d think “Hulkenberg”

F1 racing driver.

Killingmytime · 08/06/2023 17:55

reminds me of hollyoaks. I like the name, for a girl
