Today as a name. Anyone else have a guilty pleasure in out their names?

For a little girl.

I know I could never use it! It’s too out there and isn’t really a name. My DD is a Lola and I’m due another little girl soon, who I’ve decided to call Maria (H loves this name too)

But I think Today is stunning…. It’s just so refreshing.

For clarification, again, I absolutely won’t use it as I know it’ll get a low of horrible responses and we’ve settled on Maria

But just ponder the name a little and then think. It’s nice isn’t it?

My DD went to nursery with a ‘Maybe’ but it was spelt differently. It really suited her!

It’s not a name. It’s just a word.

CrunchyCarrot · 23/05/2023 10:29

I don't personally like Today as a name. Others may differ!

seekandyouwontfind · 23/05/2023 10:29

As I say, I know it’s not a name! But it sounds really nice as a name

Hope and Faith is a word but that’s widely used, for example

I quite like Friday as a name, thanks to iron man's suit AI 🤷‍♀️ anything can be a name if you want it to be

CountessBathorysBeautySecrets · 23/05/2023 10:33

Today? Hmmm, even on a hypothetical child that doesn't work for me. I prefer Holiday as a guilty pleasure name.

BigCheeseSandwich · 23/05/2023 10:38

I get it. I’ve always liked the name Land (re the character in Any Human Heart) and Happy (Death of a Salesman) but too chicken to use them!

ooo I like Land! Very earthy

Not sure on Happy… that’s a name you’d have to live up to

Can kind of see it from the point of view of the sound of the word, if it didn't have a meaning. But she would have a lifetime of confused looks every time she introduced herself. And...

"And what are you doing today, Today?"
"When did you last see Today?" "Today." "Yes, when did you see her?" "I saw Today today."
"We had a very productive meeting with Today today."

Lola is much nicer than Today, sorry.

I like Maria
Do you like Tottie

Pebbles Blush like the girl from flintstones. I'd never use it of course but love it!

dwightschrutebeets · 24/05/2023 07:18

I had a friend called Tuesday and jt gets confusing when yojre discussinf plans. I'm seeing Tuesday on Wednesday etc. maybe is from arrested development and it did suit her tbf 😂

I've always loved Lavender but it would get shortened to lav

IHeartGeneHunt · 24/05/2023 07:20

December, when I was about 15 I wrote a terrible James Bond esque story with a heroine called December and thought it was the most beautiful name ever! My daughter is not called December, fear not.

Rollinghill · 24/05/2023 07:21

Today surely would turn to Toady as soon as she hit school?!

ReadtheReviews · 24/05/2023 07:22

I like Holiday. Was one in a spin off from Saved by the Bell.

Sapho · 24/05/2023 07:23

I read “toady”. 🐸Soz OP 😆

I met a Pebble at a job interview once. The first thing she said was to explain her name. Imagine starting every conversation like that.

whatwouldAnnaDelveydo · 24/05/2023 07:24

Idea for a girl. Would never use, of course.

ShadowPuppets · 24/05/2023 07:24

Mine have rather normal names but I used to love the idea of Electra for a girl. I know the Electra complex etc etc - would never use it but I just think it’s a fab name.

Hillrunning · 24/05/2023 07:25

Interesting that you find it to be a nice name, I think the way it sounds on most people's lips isn't a pleasant sounds at all.

stormelf · 24/05/2023 07:38

It does have a nice sound to it but I agree it's very unusuable as a name. I actually quite like Day by itself.
I really liked Echo while pregnant with my second child. I had a little boy instead. He does have an extremely unusual name but never had to explain it at all or had strange looks when introduced him.

Did you watch Dragnet in your youth?

Judgyjudgy · 24/05/2023 08:37

I think there must be some wrong with me, I'm like many of these names!! I like Summer, but I think that's probably normal-ish? I like India and China too. And Love.

Damnspot · 24/05/2023 08:40

I've always liked Northey. From a Mitford novel

Google suggests I'm about 40 years too young for that

postwarbulge · 24/05/2023 09:43

I was just thinking of Sergeant Jos Friday pounding mean streets
