Today as a name. Anyone else have a guilty pleasure in out their names?

For a little girl.

I know I could never use it! It’s too out there and isn’t really a name. My DD is a Lola and I’m due another little girl soon, who I’ve decided to call Maria (H loves this name too)

But I think Today is stunning…. It’s just so refreshing.

For clarification, again, I absolutely won’t use it as I know it’ll get a low of horrible responses and we’ve settled on Maria

But just ponder the name a little and then think. It’s nice isn’t it?

My DD went to nursery with a ‘Maybe’ but it was spelt differently. It really suited her!

So is River (phoenix), January (Jones), Delta (goodrem) , Autumn. etc. So what? All names are just words, some made up, some mean something.

Yeah, but those are all just things, they don't form part of everyday sentence construction and carry little risk of confusion. It's hard to think of any examples of situations where any of those names could result in a weird sentence.

It's more like naming your baby "What" or "Have" or "Listen" (that's quite a nice namey sound, actually) or "Into".

I don't think Today works as a name, but I do have a weakness for names like Opal and Emerald and Misty, so I can't really criticise.

I've just been on a bus with an Onyx.

Never heard that as a name before.

Miami and Hawaii (would never use them either)

I named my kid a guilty pleasure name and it ended up really suiting her Grin she’s very popular and charismatic so can get away with it. If she was shy I would have let her use her middle name but she completely fits her out-there name. Its last recorded use was about 300 years ago so not a ‘made up name’ but definitely unique.

I also like word names that sound namey but aren’t. Like Vendetta. Or Silence. But I’d never saddle a child with that! I also met someone whose legal name was Ever and thought that was pretty cool.

Yes!

Some namey words to me are:

Balaclava
Dagger
Vesper
Reef
Valence
Volcano
Delirious and Delerium
Lyric
Music
Muse

Wouldn't use them but they sound name like to me. Its interesting which words become names (Melody, Harmony, River) and which don't.

Today? Hmmm, even on a hypothetical child that doesn't work for me. I prefer Holiday as a guilty pleasure name.

I absolutely love Holiday. It was on my daydream list, along with Carousel 😁

I wanted to call my son Red. So so much. But DH said not a chance lol
I still love it
With baby number 2 I convinced DH to consider Jared. I was going to secretly shorten to Red 😂 but she was a girl. Colour names are so cool (I wasn't allowed to call my daughter Indigo either)

I feel the same about Rudolph, a little Rudi would be so sweet!

I knew a Santa (female, Spanish heritage), and there's a young lad (20ish) at my gym called Rudy (I don't know how he spells it though).

Pebbles Blush like the girl from flintstones. I'd never use it of course but love it!

I always liked Pebbles too!

Washing (middle name Line)

I know a man called Genesis , which I think is pretty cool.
A distant relative of mine was Mercy .
