Freaking love the name Roux for a baby girl but no one else seems keen - I know it’s my baby, my choice etc but will I regret it?

Bit saucy for me.

TeenagersAngst · 04/04/2023 21:44

You do know it's a sauce?

CarolDunne · 04/04/2023 21:44

Too bland for me

JennyForeigner · 04/04/2023 21:45

Depends if you like to stir.

VeryQuaintIrene · 04/04/2023 21:45

You might not regret it, but she very well might!

ShippingNews · 04/04/2023 21:46

Oh dear, you know that a roux is a white sauce ? Don't do it.

Bit saucy for me.

😁

Roux is a sauce, so it's a no for me. Like calling a child gravy or bechamel.

Bubnbutton · 04/04/2023 21:47

Yes! That’s why I’m getting raised eyebrows and those very comments.. 😭 may have to go back to the drawing board! 🤣

I know a little girl called Rue.

StillWantingADog · 04/04/2023 21:47

Roo is much better

FoxtrotOscarFoxtrotOscar · 04/04/2023 21:47

You will rue the day...

MrBenFan · 04/04/2023 21:48

Roux is the mixture of flour and milk that is a base for various sauces I think.
There was a character in the Hunger Games called Ru wasn't there? Not sure how it was spelt though

Noleafclover1 · 04/04/2023 21:48

Diane is also the name of a sauce, and Anna is a potato dish. Lots of names have another meaning.

I think it's lovely OP. Suspect she'll spend a lot of time explaining that the 'x' is silent though!

Bubnbutton · 04/04/2023 21:48

@0hs0s0rry @StillWantingADog i do agree but I just love the X spelling!

No.

MoongazyHare · 04/04/2023 21:49

Roux isn’t even a sauce - it’s a paste of butter and flour, to which you add milk to make a sauce. It is emphatically not a person’s name.

Rue has been used as a girl’s name, after the herb, but its meaning is ‘regret’, so not ideal to name your child that.

I think you have a case of hormones.

HappyHealthy23 · 04/04/2023 21:49

"Roux" is a red-headed boy/man in French, as well as the sauce thickener.

Hotvimto3 · 04/04/2023 21:49

Floury

BaseDrops · 04/04/2023 21:50

How often would anyone see it written compared to hear it?

Roux? Girls name
JoanJettsMullet · 04/04/2023 21:50

Makes me think of the (male) red-haired river gypsy from the novel Chocolat.

Bubnbutton · 04/04/2023 21:51

@MoongazyHare 🤣🤣 didn’t know the ‘regret’ meaning!

so frustrating 😭😭

I actually think Béchamel would be a beautiful name. Béarnaise too.

Smartiepants79 · 04/04/2023 21:53

Rue is a better spelling. It’s a herb from Roman times - meaning = regret.
I like Rue, not Roux or Roo or Ru. Not sure about the meaning though.
