I'm expecting a baby girl and am interested to know what names are coming up in your child's nursery or class (primary school) a lot at the moment?

My DD has 2 x Lily, 2 x Isla and 2 x Matilda in her year.

Aldith · 29/04/2023 23:23

I know two Florence and two Maya and two Orla under 3 years old

You know you can get all this information for the national statistics website and it actually tells you how many babies were named each name each year. We purposely didn't pick anything that was top 50.

I always find this a funny concept. Basically saying we are going to choose names that are unpopular and no one really likes 😂

Simianwalk · 29/04/2023 23:28

Should add my name wouldn't even register in the top 500 and the DC are all in the top 50!

Unpopular isn't the same as not being liked.

When we were thinking of a name for DD we missed potential names that we liked because there are thousands of names. (Her name is not in the top 100.)

Though I did spend time telling my DP she was definitely not being named after a Disney princess.

Not really, I can think of lots of names that I like but wouldn't use. Ones that are too long, or that don't go with the surname, might be culturally inappropriate, or might not travel well, might be too closely associated with someone, or might have more than one spelling/pronunciation.

Loads saying Evie on here.

My daughter is almost 2 and I really really wanted to call her Eve nn Evie but I kept seeing them springing up everywhere including a close friend, plus another close friend with an Ivy. It was getting silly how many we knew 😂so we went with another name on our list.

Anyway now she is at nursery and there are two Evie’s just in the under 2s room with her so I’m glad we didn’t use it, as lovely as it is!!

Sometherusername · 09/04/2023 21:30

Evie, Mae (unhyphenated), Cleo, Alfie, Arlo

We have a Cleo and thought it was fairly unusual (I’ve never met one - well a human one before!) then one day pushing her in the swing in our little village park, the dad next to me was pushing his baby girl - Cleo! They’ll probably end up being in the same year group when they go to school, I was pretty shocked tbh! We both found it funny.

Timetochangetheoil · 07/05/2023 02:59

OP, names I encounter the most (have a 3 and 5 year old) are Isla, Ava, Evie, Grace, Olivia, Esme, Aurora, Theo, Teddy, Sam, Leo, Joey, Jackson, Felix, Zachary, Alfie, Jude.

myveryownelectrickitten · 07/05/2023 03:22

Multiples of:
Isabelle/Isabella
Phoebe
Amy
Scarlett
Amelia

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 07/05/2023 07:56

My dd is at secondary school and they seem to have put the form classes together with kids that have the same names. For example there are are x2 of:
Mia
Honey
Molly
Milly
Willow
Ollie
William
Harry
Luca (and Luka so 3)
Really odd way of doing it! Having multiples in each class!

RachyKF · 07/05/2023 08:03

Teacher here…in my nursery, I’m currently teaching multiple:
Lily (Lillie, Lilly, Lili)
Isla
Amelia

In the best of the school there are loads of
Lily
Amelia
Poppy
Amelie
