I'm expecting a baby girl and am interested to know what names are coming up in your child's nursery or class (primary school) a lot at the moment?

The only multiple name in my DD's nursery class is Freddie.

In terms of kids aged 6ish and younger I know multiples of:
Isla
Oscar
Oliver
Noah
Felix
Seth
Ivy
Toby
Sophia
Charlotte
Theo

There are 2 James in my sons class, 1 of them mine.

I knew when I named him James that at some point he'd likely be in a class with another one. I loved the name though. It's also pretty timeless so as he grows up it won't be totally obvious when he was born.

I know loads of Felix born in the past 2 years. That will become quite dated.

In terms of girls names. Elizabeth is the ultimate timeless classic. Again you can expect that at some point there will be others with that name in the class. Later in life though it won't be clear how old they are.

I think if you aim for a name that no one else has, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Nor did we but my DD has ended up sitting next to another one in class!

And on the flip side, my daughters name was in the 20s but it was always my favourite no 1 choice so the popularity didn't bother me... and it's turned out she's the only one in the school!

There are three Camillas in the Reception class which surprised me.

Multiple Amelia/Emilia in DS’ nursery across the age rooms. There are a couple of Claras, a couple of Evelyns and a couple of Sophias as well. All very nice, classic names so I can see why really.

Whippetlovely · 01/04/2023 18:26

Surprised George isn’t on this list, my son has three in his class (him being one) they call them but their full names so they know which George!

Interesting! Thanks! A lot of names I wouldn't expect to be quite as popular as they are! Whereabouts are you?

Hello there - I'm in the US, major midwest city. Hence the Hispanic and Polish names.

Reugny · 01/04/2023 19:14

@Twizbe in my area of London there are lots of boys called Felix aged 16 and under.

@triplechocbrownie , if you look at the ONS page Baby names in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk), if you scroll down it gives the stats for things like name by region.
Names like Oliver and Olivia might be consistently popular through the country (or countries as it's for England & Wales), but a less popular name might be very popular in one area.
