I'm expecting a baby girl and am interested to know what names are coming up in your child's nursery or class (primary school) a lot at the moment?

It's a nice name though!

Half of them are being grumpy in the supermarket. 😂

KirstenBlest · 01/04/2023 19:24

I'd also look on darkgreener, and I'd look at names that are similar (Teddy & Edward, Theo and Theodore, Sophia, Sofia, and Sophie, May and Mae, Rose and Rosie, Camille, Camilla, Camila etc) together.

The data is for 2021.

Most of the names in DD’s Reception year (60kids, London) are spectacularly dull. Multiples of Luna, Isla, Sienna, Aria, Clara. About half the boys are called some variation on a theme of Alfie/Albie/Archie/Arthur/Arlo.

Very few choices outside the ‘usual suspects’ in the top 100. Most ‘out there’ names would probably be the old lady/old man category - lots of Mabels, Olives and Adas are coming through. But clearly the more adventurous and cosmopolitan naming trends haven’t reached our suburb yet!

Galadali · 01/04/2023 19:26

There are 7 boys in my son's year 3 class and 3 of them are called Oscar.

Every other girl is called Margot atm.
Lots of ie ending names for both boys and girls.

I asked my health visitor what names she has noticed in her caseload coming up and apparently 3 baby Margot's in the last month.

In my little boys nursery there are 2 Eden's (1 boy 1 girl) 2 Islas, 2 Florence's

I have dc in reception and a one year old. The names i’m hearing a lot of are:

Mia, Maya, Mila, May etc - this seems to be everywhere with a lot of variations
Sophia, Sofia
Isla, Ava, Ada eg short vowely names ending in a
Eve, Evie, Evelyn, Ivy
Lily, Lyra, Lyla, Luna

Boys
Arlo is one I notice a lot
Frankie seems to be really popular here
Alfie/ Archie
Oscar
Theo

Lots of nice names, but they seem to be the most popular around here (south east). I don’t think the charts always tell the full story as it’s often the names that sound similar that feel the most popular as they all blend together (seems to be particularly the case with girls names).

People really do make things up on threads like this 🤣
There are not multiple Zuzannas in one class FFS.

Ignorant comment.

Zuzanna is Polish. Some parts of the UK have large Polish communities and therefore you will indeed find multiple Zuzannas, Kacpers, Tomaszs, etc, in the local schools.

Rayn22 · 01/04/2023 21:19

There are 2 James in my sons class, 1 of them mine.

I knew when I named him James that at some point he'd likely be in a class with another one. I loved the name though. It's also pretty timeless so as he grows up it won't be totally obvious when he was born.

I know loads of Felix born in the past 2 years. That will become quite dated.

In terms of girls names. Elizabeth is the ultimate timeless classic. Again you can expect that at some point there will be others with that name in the class. Later in life though it won't be clear how old they are.

I think if you aim for a name that no one else has, you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I'm an Elizabeth and my mum says she would have called me James had I been a boy, after her father. These two names have been about forever but never " taken over" so don't date, you're right, timeless classics.

Of course there are in areas with large Polish communities. Zuzanna is the equivalent of Olivia or Sophia in terms of popularity in Poland and the Polish diaspora.

MissingMoominMamma · 01/04/2023 21:27

We have two Ellas and two Elsies.

TeamSleep · 01/04/2023 21:30

There’s quite a mix of different names in our school, not many multiples and lots of very unusual names. The only multiples I can think of are Alfie and James.

coyoistadty · 01/04/2023 21:30

Interestingly in my child's class they all have fairly unusual names most aren't typical top 100 names. There is a Leo but that's the only common name I know of.

KateF · 01/04/2023 21:31
