I love the name Cove, but does it suit a girl or a boy?

You Old Cove? It's not a name for anyone

dreamygirl25 · 29/03/2023 09:52

I like that! I think either.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/03/2023 09:52

Is it a name?

bussteward · 29/03/2023 09:52

It’s a good name for a cove, not a human.

Coastalvenues · 29/03/2023 09:52

It's slang for boy or man, one that was up to no good

SoupDragon · 29/03/2023 09:52

It's a pet or place name.

Hbh17 · 29/03/2023 09:53

It isn't a name at all - for either sex.

queenofthewild · 29/03/2023 09:53

I met a Cove the other day. I can't recall if it was a boy or a girl baby. I think girl, but may be wrong.

Needmorelego · 29/03/2023 09:53

I don't know what the phrase "You Old Cove" means....but I wouldn't say it's a name.
Would you say it Cove rhymes with Grove or Cove rhymes with Dove?

Hoppinggreen · 29/03/2023 09:54

Neither

BodenCardiganNot · 29/03/2023 09:54

Beach?

RudsyFarmer · 29/03/2023 09:55

The first thing that comes to mind is ‘how do you spell that?’ will plague the life of the recipient.

JellyfishandShells · 29/03/2023 09:55

How is it pronounced - like the bay, or with a stress on the last e ? Or in some other way ? Cove as a reference to an older gentleman is falling into disuse but it’s still there, which would put me off.

CattySam · 29/03/2023 09:56

Not a name

It's a slang term from the 1920s 30s and 40s for a man, slightly denigrating, like bloke or geyser.
'Some cove tried to sell me a dodgy car, so I told him where to go.'

QuertyGirl · 29/03/2023 09:58

It's a piece of geography

It's even slightly more negative than 'bloke' I think.

Regardless, it's not a name I would use.

Macaroni46 · 29/03/2023 10:01

Name of a geographical feature. Not a name for a human.
Why this obsession on MN for weird names? Your child has to live with the 'unique' name.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 29/03/2023 10:01

I’ve never heard of it as a name, or used for a bloke as pp described.
it would be a lovely name, sounds slightly more for a girl to me, but could be either.

boobooboom · 29/03/2023 10:01

I've never heard of this name.

‘Sly cove’ or ‘awkward cove’ is very Jeeves & Wooster.

PinkSyCo · 29/03/2023 10:07

Neither.

JadeSeahorse · 29/03/2023 10:07

Not heard that before but I love it!

I immediately thought girl though.

Heathcloverpeaches · 29/03/2023 10:07

I know a little boy and a baby girl called Cove :)

MrsRandom123 · 29/03/2023 10:08

Neither!
