I love the name Cove, but does it suit a girl or a boy?

It's neither. It's somewhere with water.

Cupofteaaa5 · 29/03/2023 10:08

It doesn't sound like a name to me at all. But I suppose if someone were to name their baby Cove, to me it would be a boy.

ididntwanttodoit · 29/03/2023 10:08

Never heard it used as a name but it is an old-fashioned term for a man. Doesn't have to be negative, e.g. "He was friendly-looking cove". A bit casual, like "bloke".

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 29/03/2023 10:08

It's not a name. It just makes me think of Covid 🤣

shakeitoffsis · 29/03/2023 10:09

It's a made up name

GilbertNo4 · 29/03/2023 10:10

It's an insult, a dodgy gadgy!

Stugs · 29/03/2023 10:10

Yes is it short for Covid?

MoongazyHare · 29/03/2023 10:12

It’s a noun. No more suited as the name of a person than ‘colander’ or ‘ticket’.

Also has somewhat negative connotations as archaic slang for a man, usually modified by a pejorative adjective such as ‘shady’ or ‘odd’.

There are thousands of better choices for naming a human!

Blueuggboots · 29/03/2023 10:14

It's not a name.

TinDogTavern · 29/03/2023 10:16

It's a) masculine sounding b) awful and c) not a name.

HealthyFats · 29/03/2023 10:17

A brother for Cliff 😭

Please don’t call your poor baby Cove.

Lcb123 · 29/03/2023 10:17

Not a name

faffadoodledo · 29/03/2023 10:17

It's a geographical term, and a slightly antiquated (but still well known) term for a slightly crafty or louche older man.

pettysquabbles · 29/03/2023 10:19

It's not a name, it's a small secluded beach........

Three brothers - Cliff, Cove and Strand.

Tsk tsk, I mustn't give people ideas.

Richelieu · 29/03/2023 10:23

It’s not a name, it’s just a word. And yes, it’s also a slangy term for a bloke, a geezer.

You could use it as a name, I suppose, but only in the way you could theoretically call anyone anything.

You can always tell which one is Cliff, because he’s the one with a seagull on his head.

happysingleversary · 29/03/2023 10:24

Cove for a boy
Alcove for a girl

DahliaMacNamara · 29/03/2023 10:24

Everything most pps have said. Covid, small marine bay, old bloke, possibly one that's a bit of a cad or a bounder, by Jove.
However. Maybe it's a modern thing I haven't kept up with. I thought a recent Arlo sounded like a dairy firm, and of course there are loads of little Arlos about.

JamSandle · 29/03/2023 10:25

I would put it as a girls name.

Winterisalmostover · 29/03/2023 10:33

I'd feel very sorry for any child with that name, but marginally worse for a girl. "He's an old cove - he's a lecherous old man."

AuntieStella · 29/03/2023 10:35

I wouldn't use it at all tbh.

But if cornered, then boy's name (alongside Guy, Geezer, Sonny etc) but describing someone as a cove isn't as friendly as those three - it definitely a weird sort of man

Etoile41 · 29/03/2023 10:36

Sorry but that does not sound like a name for a boy or girl

Snoken · 29/03/2023 10:38

No

Namechangedforspooky · 29/03/2023 10:38

My first thought was ceilings
at a push I’d guess girl
