Pregnant with my first I was sure it was a boy. Big red headed, future rugy player. Miles Henry. Emergency C section for pre-eclampsia and had tiny 4lb 2 oz black haired girl. Could not believe she was mine. Orderley asked her name and the first that came to mind was one my DH had mentioned. "Eloise". The Orderley sang "The Damned" Eloise all the way to the ward. Still the prettiest name, and a really lovely person to boot.

Lovely name, Eloise. I always think of Barry Ryan's great original version, though, didn't know there was another!

Met a lady called Bliss last week. It's the first time I've heard it, but I think there's a character in a Jacqueline Wilson book with the name. I think it's beautiful!

eyeblob · 16/08/2023 23:23

I've alway loved Elodie or Jenna

Luella - famed warrior
Ettalie - birth of the lord
Luna - moon
Zella- one who knows the way

Anyone saddled with the name Luna will be called Loony at school
Neveah is not Heaven backwards. Nevaeh is. Anyway, how do you pronounce it- Nivea as in well known skin cream?
Anyone given a name which, when heard, needs explanation how it is spelled, or, when written, needs to say how it is pronounced, will not thank their parents!

I know several Lunas and none of them get called Loony.

These things apply to my name. I have Spanish parents and my name is Spanish, but I was born and raised in the UK. Do you think I have a grudge against my parents?

So narrow minded. Jeez.

How can you be sure what a child is being called in school? They may or may not Share that information with parents never mind teachers or anyone else.

Classmates aren't likely to confess to calling a child Luna the Looney or Looney Luna.

It's a OK name but it's likely to be a source of teasing.

Mooshamoo · 23/08/2023 23:08

I just met a woman called "Lumina".

Have you been in many primary schools? Luna is quite a normal name.

DosCervezas · 24/08/2023 22:25

Sharon for me, it's a very under appreciated name I think.

VaddaABeetch · 24/08/2023 22:38

O’Looney or Lonnetvis a common surname in Ireland.

Luna O’Looney would be cool.

Sounds like a vegetable

I think it's a type of harsh, noisy instrument.. but Pronouncing it is tricky ''Cally-ope'' or ''Call- ee- oh- Pay'' ?

Samzzz · 14/11/2023 17:02

Winter 🤍

Poorlittlepoorgirl · 14/11/2023 21:12

so many of these “fancy” names are so twee and saccharine. and the different spellings are pretentious.

Who ever says loony though?

Sugarfree23 · 14/11/2023 21:44

Loony tunes,
Yes the word loony is used, certainly in my part of the world, 'he's a loony' or sometimes of a 'bit of a loony' or a particularly bad loony 'complete and utter lunatic that should be in a loony bin'

FancyFanny · 14/11/2023 21:44

Never met a child called Luna and I work in a primary school. Heard of plenty of animals called it though- especially on t'internet!

Yes, everyone should be called Jack and Sophie. Even in Outer Mongolia. In case you might find it hard to pronounce if they came to the UK and met you.
