Farahnaz

Farahnaz (Persian: فرحناز, from Arabic فرح (faraḥ) meaning joy, gladness and Persian ناز (nâz) meaning cute) is a Persian given name for girls common in Iran, South Asia and Central Asia.

Pronounced Dra-shen-ka Slavic name found across the Balkans.

Francesca
Eloise

My daughter has better names, but I’m not putting them on mn. So no, didn’t use the above.

I love both those names. My favourite girls name at the moment is Cossette, nn Cosie.

I'm also liking bird names, Robin and Wren. Definitely too old for any more children, bit may use them for future cats names.

Hero, although husband would absolutely not allow us to use it. From my favourite Shakespeare play "Much ado ABOUT nothing "

WhatFreshHeckle · 04/04/2023 12:08

I love Jane Austen names! I also enjoy the books for comfort reading so it may be that I associate them with the books

Elizabeth
Lydia
Mary
Emma
Elinor
Catherine (nn Kitty)
Harriett
Georgiana

If I had loads of daughters, I'd use them all.

Not keen on Fanny though!

I wouldn't want to be called Fanny either, but Franny - with a long A - is nice, and I like Francesca. I like Elizabeth and Catherine, because there are so many shortening for both those names. If I had had a daughter I would have called her Laura - I think that's a lovely name.

WhatFreshHeckle · 05/04/2023 08:12

Laura is lovely and due a comeback imo.

I know a RL Franny, short for Frances (which she hates and will only let you call her Franny). She's great, so it's a good association for me.

Apparently Fanny Price is really Frances too, but I also prefer Francesca. Would add that to my list for imaginary tonnes of daughters

Emerald

pancakesandpepsi · 05/04/2023 15:55

I would have to go with Flora or Arielle as we are stuck between these names for our little one!
also like many on here I like Aurora, although not as keen on its nicknames

Doodaadoo · 10/04/2023 20:37

My german mother put me off Astrid for DD.

She explained it sounds like “arse kick” to any german (ass, arse; trid, kick). That’s all I think off when I hear the name now. Avoid if you have any german connections.

incidentally she also said that Ashling sounds, in german, like “little arse” (ash = ass; ling = diminutive in german). She used to have a good laugh about a friend of hers who called her daughter by that name. My mum was not the nicest. This level of humour akin to how we brits find it hilarious that the german for father is Vater (pronounced farter).

Didn’t you all name your first daughter (if you have) your favourite name?

No, because DH didn't like it, and mythological it's not a good connection.

Loreli

ThomasinaLivesHere · 06/07/2023 07:10

This is an easier question for boys as I have a clear favourite in Raphael but could never use it.

For girls I’d have to go with Cordelia. Such a pretty name to me but annoyingly husband doesn’t like it.

Annemaria · 06/07/2023 11:13

But isn’t Demi short for Demetria? The diminutive sounds too like demic to me, which where I come from oop north meant defective.
