It’s true about tastes changing over time. 18 years ago, was going to call DS Darcie had he been a girl. Glad now I didn’t get the chance to, as everyone would think I’m a Pride and Prejudice nut! Sorry to all the Darcie’s out there, it’s a nice name but not one for me.

Criseyde. Old form of Cressida, but most people are unfamiliar with it and would question spelling and pronunciation.
Having to get your DC’s approval of your favourite name is also a giant obstacle for most mothers.

Chlamydia...only I'm sure that was a modern myth

PlantsHaveTakenOverMyHome · 12/03/2023 14:43

Demelza and Delilah. Never had girls but two of my cats have/had those names! My grandmothers were named Annie and Alice which I think are sweet. Maybe if I adopt another pair of kittens in the future! 😊

I had a German friend called Krista. I liked her name a lot.

Giselle

I love this pronounced the German way with a hard G. Geezaler. (Though it looks awful spelled phonetically!)

@MysteryBelle I read the Madeline Miller novel ‘Circe’ during the first lockdown so I might not recall correctly but I seem to remember thinking they deserved to be turned into pigs….. 🤔

Good point! Homer’s Odyssey was from a man’s point of view 😏 so you may be right, there could have been a very good reason….😁

I love Aisling (pronounced Ashling), but unfortunately I didn't come across it till years after DD was born.

GorgeousFox · 12/03/2023 21:18

Melody - but never envisaged that younger brothers would shorten it to “Smell” lol

Sounded out as cal-eye-oh-pee

not sure how that sounds like a vegetable 🤔

Sounds more like a type on melon to me.

Some lovely names on here.

Another vote for Genevieve.
Romily.
Francesca.
Sylvie.

I do love my daughter’s name, she has Welsh first and middle names (we have the same middle name).

Ohh have you seen The Last Czars on Netflix? It's an excellent series about the Romanovs and historically very accurate

My DD is Alma. Took DH some convincing, but I'm so glad he came around. I'm proud of her name and I just hope she grows up to be too. She's got an equally beautiful but a bit more main stream middle name just incase she wants to go by that when she's older

OMG. That makes me happy. My Grandma Alma was born 2 centuries ago. I thought the name had gone. I didn't have a girl otherwise would have been first choice. Before people get confused she was born in 1899!!! She sadly died in 1992. So covered two centuries.
