Jesse or jude

I like both, slightly prefer Jude.

Somanycats · 03/03/2023 10:08

Jesse is okay. Jude is lovely. But I would do Judah, shortened to Jude.

TeeBee · 03/03/2023 10:11

Both are lovely. I also like Jonas or Joss.

uhtredbebbanburg · 03/03/2023 10:13

I like both!

OrangeSmartiesTasteDifferent · 03/03/2023 10:19

I have a Jesse... be prepared for a lot of misgendering and mis spelling. Class Xmas cards in year 4 are still 'Jessie' this upsets my boy as he knows it's the girls version. Call the GP say his name and get asked "what's her DOB?" A bit frustrating

FayCarew · 03/03/2023 10:47

Don't really like either of them, or Judah.
I know one Jesse and he hates it (big jessie), and I know one Jude who hates being called her full name, Judith.
They are not children.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 03/03/2023 10:51

I like them both, I especially like Jesse and would have used it had I thought if it!

USaYwHatNow · 03/03/2023 11:10

I have just had a Jude, everyone I've spoken to or introduced him to has had a positive reaction. It's still relatively unusual, though I wondered if it would become more popular after the World Cup (Jude Bellingham).

Viviennemary · 03/03/2023 11:17

I wouldn't go for Jesse though I quite like it. Too much chance of it being mistaken for a girls name. Jude is ok though I'm not personally that keen on it.

kenne · 03/03/2023 11:19

Calling a man a "Jessie" is an insult in Scotland so I wouldn't go for that.

Jude is nice.

MyOtherUsernameIsDave · 03/03/2023 11:36

I know a Jesse and about 3 Jude’s.

Hobbesmanc · 03/03/2023 12:39

Love Jesse. It's popular as a boys name in the US. Like Jesse Pinkman lol. Jude also great as a stand alone name. He was a saint wasn't he. I like those biblical J names. Jonah, Jacob, Joshua, Joel.

LightHousePanda · 03/03/2023 12:46

I'm not surprised that boys called Jesse face issues like one of the other posters detailed. In the USA it seems to be an established boy's name here but I think especially for older people and those not familiar with Breaking Bad in the UK it's a girl's name. Also, it's been used like the name Sissy in Scotland so I definitely wouldn't use it.

I'd choose Jude over Jesse but I don't like either - sorry.

Twoinapod · 03/03/2023 13:08

I love Jesse, I know several (all boys ranging from 20s to primary school) none have encountered any issues

I really don’t like Jude. I only know of one but he gets his life narrated in rhyme, Jude the dude, Jude’s in a mood, Jude wants some food, Jude’s just pood. This is by family members and I just cringe for the lad.

FlowerTink · 03/03/2023 13:32

Love Jude! I know of 2

Blueberry40 · 03/03/2023 13:33

Jesse is okay but really love the name Jude for a boy ❤️

Reddahlias · 03/03/2023 14:10

Both VERY feminine sounding to me, but that's because I know several Jessies (Jessicas) and Jude/Judys (Judith).

Jude is the German word for Jew. So it doesn't travel well internationally

Reddahlias · 03/03/2023 14:11

Jesse is an insult in Scotland.

SomethingAboutNothing · 03/03/2023 14:18

I love both of them. Great choices.

ISpyCobraKai · 03/03/2023 14:25

Jude.

playgroundwarrior · 03/03/2023 14:27

Jude is incredibly popular. I know so
many now. Nice name though. Not so keen on Jesse as it reminds me of Neighbours circa 98.

ZeldaB · 03/03/2023 15:31

I think with boys it’s so important to give them a name that doesn’t invite teasing.

Jesse = sounds like a girl’s name, plus apparently it’s an insult in Scotland

Jude = He’ll hear the song “Hey Jude” a lot and as someone upthread it means Jewish in Germany.

What about Josh / Joshua? Jake? Etc etc

shoopshoopdedoo · 03/03/2023 17:16

I like Jude. Not so keen on Jesse, personally.

daisypond · 03/03/2023 17:18

Isn’t that Jessie?
