What are your thoughts on Fleur for a girls name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Got2besoon · 24/02/2023 17:12

I like the meaning but don't find the actual word sound very appealing.

It's sort of like 'eugh'.

Still, when I imagine someone with that name they're well educated and beautiful.

Whywaistedwyonna · 24/02/2023 17:20

I think it’s very pretty

Bumblebee413 · 24/02/2023 17:21

It's beautiful x

Plump82 · 24/02/2023 17:21

I'm Scottish and cant say it properly so for the reason I'm not keen.

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/02/2023 17:23

Sounds like bleugh. Lovely meaning but horrible sound

I agree with this.

SpinningFloppa · 24/02/2023 17:25

I hate it, it sounds like a noise someone makes rather than an actual name it’s the eughhh bit for me horrible sorry

Theelephantinthecastle · 24/02/2023 17:25

I like it but I do assume the person is French - the only person I know with the name is half French

MikeLitoriss · 24/02/2023 17:25

I think it's lovely but depending on your regional accent (sorry!)
For example not as lovely said in a Scottish or northern/Yorkshire/Liverpudlian accent etc....

StopFeckingFaffing · 24/02/2023 17:26

I like it but I prefer Flora (but sure someone will be along soon to say you can't use Flora because of the margarine)

TomatoSandwiches · 24/02/2023 17:32

It's not a nice sounding name and both Fleurs I've known were pias.

CaptainWentworth · 24/02/2023 17:33

@StopFeckingFaffing haha I came to look at this thread because I have a small Flora! I did hesitate because of the spread, but we’ve only had positive comments (and none of them marg related)

I like Fleur as well, but like a PP I would possibly assume there was a French connection.

Hohofortherobbers · 24/02/2023 17:35

I love Fleur and would have used it but with my surname it would sound like a stutter!!

Spanielsarepainless · 24/02/2023 18:10

Think it's gorgeous. I know an Australian Fleur.

SummerWinds · 24/02/2023 18:12

I love it , as well as Flora, Florrie and Flo.

ourflagmeansdeath · 24/02/2023 18:13

Personally think it's super pretty!! Completely get the "eugh" sound but it just doesn't like that for me - it sounds elegant. Really lovely name.

Harebrain · 24/02/2023 18:14

I think it’s a very pretty name.

Snoopystick · 24/02/2023 18:15

This is so funny as it was DPs favourite name but it sounds awful with his accent (north west) so much do that I had to veto it. My daughter also thinks she dodged a bullet as she doesn’t like it.

Londonmama85 · 24/02/2023 18:55

Not sure it will sound nice in some accents..

Santasoorplooms · 24/02/2023 18:57

There aren’t many names I really don’t like…but Fleur is one of them, sorry. It sounds like vomiting, unless you have an authentic French accent to go with it.

familyissues12345 · 24/02/2023 19:38

I love it. Funnily enough I had surgery earlier in the week and my nurse in recovery was called Fleur, the first thing I said to her was what a pretty name she has BlushGrin

Probably better than crying at her (like I've done after a GA in the past..)

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/02/2023 19:54

I like the name but don't like the sound!

It sounds like Bleur.

Twoinapod · 24/02/2023 19:55

I really want to like it, the meaning is lovely and said in a French accent it’s nice, but unfortunately in the UK it sounds too much like Eugh!

FayCarew · 24/02/2023 20:36

I quite like it but I have a rhotic accent. I say it as Flurr not Fleugh.
Is it a name in France?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 24/02/2023 20:39

It's lovely. I really like Fleur East.
