(With Maris as a middle name rather than a part of the first name.)

Is it usable? I love the name Stella and I love the Virgin Mary.

I think it’s a bit of a heavy name to laden a child with.

Also my first thought when seeing Maris is a potato.

Witsendwilly · 24/02/2023 04:39

Stella Maris is a just up the road from where I live, and to thousands of people would immediately make them think of the Isle of a man TT motorcycle races as it’s a famous part of the circuit.

Whether that would bother you or your child in the future is up to you. Personally I would think it’s pretty cool, but I am a massive bike fan.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2023 04:44

Lovely name.

teezletangler · 24/02/2023 05:11

I know a child with this name. Very Catholic family obviously. I think it's beautiful. I don't think it's too much, as your full name doesn't come up very often in the course of normal life.

DesertRose64 · 24/02/2023 05:22

It’s a beautiful name. It’s the name of a very close loved one. People smile when they hear it.

Do you know what it means?

Twoinapod · 24/02/2023 05:37

@DesertRose64 yes which is why I said I said it’s a heavy name to laden a child with.

MoChridhe · 24/02/2023 05:39

I love it

hulahoopqueen · 24/02/2023 05:43

I think it's beautiful - and have never heard of Stella Maris the place, so no connection there for me!

Awumminnscotland · 24/02/2023 05:44

Stella Maris..Star of the sea..name of my Dad's boat

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2023 05:46

Stella Maris means stat of the sea. I agree it's a bit heavy for a baby. Stella on its own is ok. Lots of other lovely catholic names though.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2023 05:47

Cross post with @Awumminnscotland

Daisychained8 · 24/02/2023 05:49

We are Catholic and also as a family have a very strong connection to the sea (in terms of family history) so I thought it might be fitting. I also love Stella which she’d be know as day-to-day. I didn’t know it was a place either but to be honest it sounds pretty cool with the bike races 😁

When I think Stella I think of a dog with shaggy hair. Not sure why.

My loved be is known as Stella as is anyone else I’ve come across with the name. But I always mention the Maris part of it when I’m asked what my loved ones name is because of how beautiful it is.

Star of the Sea. It’s just absolutely beautiful.

PoshCoffee · 24/02/2023 06:38

I once stayed in a hotel in Spain called Stella Maris

DesertRose64 · 24/02/2023 06:40

Sorry Op - my loved one was born on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, we are a Catholic family, but I haven’t practiced for 50 years.

Some of my grandchildren have names that are translations of Star of the Sea in the language and culture they’re been brought up in.

That made me laugh. There’s a connection at the back of my mind also but I can’t remember what it’s. I’m thinking something like the dog in Peter Pan. Was it nana? I love that.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/02/2023 06:50

I quite like Stella Splendens. Which means splendid star. But I'd never call a child it!

I think the dog in Princess and the Frog is called Stella.

I really like the name Stella, it’s strong and feminine and beautiful for a baby, toddler, teen and adult.

The dog in Kesuke's Kingdom is called Stella.

AnotherCountryMummy · 24/02/2023 07:21

I didn't love it until I read the meaning. And now I really do!

TheRamblingRose · 24/02/2023 07:22

Our DD is Stella and we love it, haven't met any others yet either. I like Stella Maris and for all the people saying "it's a bit heavy for a baby", well she won't be a baby for long!

Soggyhouse · 24/02/2023 07:23

Beer potato

Awumminnscotland · 24/02/2023 07:33

Also, I love the name Stella. To me it's a very strong sounding name.
