Never heard it before.

Never heard it before.

I do wonder if it might be a bit too old

i can't even begin to pronounce it!

notanoxfordcomma · 09/02/2023 14:59

Pronounced caffery?

ShakeYourTittyTattas · 09/02/2023 15:00

What culture is the name from?

Sandysandwich · 09/02/2023 15:04

For a girl or a boy?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/02/2023 15:06

It reminds me of Ancient Egypt, like Khufu. I quite like it, if that's your heritage.

QwestSprout · 09/02/2023 15:08

As in the Pharaonic name meaning 'appearing like Re'? (Re the God also written as Ra).

I had two Pharaonic names on my name lists; Ancient Egypt was my first love when it comes to history. I'm also a follower of Kemet though so I don't know if I'd use it if I didn't have any links to Egypt.

I don't see why. As you said it is growing on you, it sounded strange to me at first which is understandable as I'd never heard it before but it is growing on me.

As a boys name

Yeah, Ra is my favourite god

Unless you're Egyptian, no.

Sherrystrull · 09/02/2023 16:58

Isn't that one of the pharaohs buried in a pyramid?

WalkingThroughTreacle · 09/02/2023 16:59

Why parents curse their child with a name they will spend their whole life having to spell for people, and still having it misspelled, baffles me.

I agree. It's selfish and cruel.

To me it sounds pretty yet manly, not common but would fit in an English classroom. The more I say it, the more right it feels

That is literally every name ever 🤦

He might hate you, but you can't say it doesn't have culture. I'd draw the line at Amenhotep or Tutankhamen... although I do know a Ptolemy...

It's really not. Apart from when we travel to non English speaking places both my sons never need to spell their names.

007DoubleOSeven · 09/02/2023 17:43

I'm pretty good at guessing pronunciation but even I would struggle with that one

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 09/02/2023 17:46

It's awful, especially if you are a white Brit. Maybe ok if you are middle eastern but I don't know if it's from those cultures.

WarmWinterSun · 09/02/2023 17:46

I think it’s unfair to the child to be given such a challenging name.

westoftheplanets · 09/02/2023 17:54

I have a traditional but rare name from the uk that people still can't say or spell so go for it if you want.
